This is my view to a tee. Don't like it much at all (especially if it involves the #13 pick in this draft) because he's old, been injured, a drama queen, and comes across as an unlikeable idiot as a person to me, but the cold analytical side of me knows he's still an above average QB with the on-field knowledge and experience to carry a team forward and compete for a Super Bowl.

And this team desperately, desperately needs that exact profile.

Peyton Manning won the Superbowl with the Broncos at age 39
Tom Brady won it all with the Buccaneers at 43
John Elway won the whole enchilada with the Broncos at age 39
Jim Plunkett took the Raiders to the big show and beat Washington at age 37.

It's a thing, older players taking one last shot at glory. Rodgers wants to win a second ring. Everything is aligning. It's time. Go Jets.

A lot of people seemed to really like the guy for the first 15 years or his career then rather suddenly decided they don’t like him in 2021.

Only because I want to rub it in my dad's face if Rodgers plays well (He's a Packers fan)

been a little undecided and extra critical myself, but I took a step back and realized at this point i'd take any QB who isn't a bottom 10 QB

I’m not giving a 1st round pick for a 39 year old quarterback. Period.

Aaron Rodgers at 39 is probably the second best 39 year old quarterback to ever play. He won MVP at 37 and 38. I doubt he forgot how to play football one year later.

I doubt the Jets are giving up a first round pick for Rodgers. Douglas is a shrewd wheeler-dealer. However, one first round pick for a shot at the Superbowl. To jump from mediocrity to greatness in a single trade. Sign me up.

I don't understand how this isn't painfully obvious, every Jet fan in media (Rex, Greeny, Eisen..) all pleading for him. A chance to be relevant, better than relevant even for just 2 years to me as a bruised and battered Jet fan is worth it at all cost. We ARE a QB away, our roster matches up with any of the top teams in the league minus the QB. Mind blown I guess, what's the quote, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take? If we don't trade for him and he takes the Titans or Raiders or even worse Miami to the super bowl I could never forgive myself for wanting the Jets to play conservatively and pair, no waste this elite D and elite weapons with Jimmy G or Carr whose fans can't get rid of him fast enough.

    Yay.

One of his biggest critiques is only 1 championship. If he can do it in NY with the Jets, it would be like winning 5.

I don't think he will work out here. He is coming from Green Bay where they cheer everything Packers. Jets fans booed Santa Claus. Rodgers is a Little Princess/Diva/D@@k.

You should listen to Shannon Sharpe's commentary today on Rodgers. I usually don't agree with him but he was spot on this time.

The odds favor him stepping down again in the season he turns 40. I'd be all for signing him to a 2 year free agent deal anyway.

Not really jazzed at the idea of giving up real draft value to get him at this point. I remember 2008 vividly. The kind of trade we made for Favre would be ok.

I think he's a good bridge option that can play a good 2 more years, even if he is a douche.
It also would make the Hackett move make sense.
I'm all for it, as the team has painted itself into a corner and options are not good.

in terms of trade compensation, Favre cost us a 2nd.
I can't see it being any higher than that from a draft capital stand point, although i could see a player or two moved as part of the deal (Corey Davis and/or Carl Lawson are possibilities).

Anyone know what his cap hit would be to us the next couple years?
    Around 40 per?

$30.315M next season. This assuming he converts half his bonus to salary for the year. That's kind of the minimum it would take for the Packers to be able to clear his cap number in the trade. Unclear for '24 because there's a complicated $47M payment in that season.

You people can float as many scenarios as you want. There’s no scenario where I’m on board with any trade that sends a first round pick in exchange for a 39 year old quarterback. I don’t care who it is, I am not interested in that trade. I’ve said what I said, I will now leave the thread for you all.
