I don't want to come across as an asshole, so let me preface this by saying, I'm currently fighting colon cancer, bladder cancer, and lung cancer. Last year I suffered three strokes, had two major surgeries, and six weeks of chemo. Suffice it to say, I have absolutely zero patience for dickwads. I genuinely do not believe that you are a dickwad, maybe you're just having a bad day, maybe it's me. That being said, allow me to restate my original post for everyone who is brand new to the concept of forum discourse, or the internet in general. "It appears [to me, and others] that a first round pick swap is on the table. If that's so, this deal won't happen until after pick twelve. If the guy the pack is targeting is available, the swap/trade happens. If not, the announcement probably comes at the start of day 2." Report: Time Running Out on Aaron Rodgers Trade Between ‘In-Fighting’ Packers, Jets - Sports Illustrated Green Bay Packers News, Analysis and More Packers president Murphy is done giving updates on Aaron Rodgers trade - Acme Packing Company Again, when asked about Rogers, JD stated "He'll be here". That's not a statement you make unless a deal is in place. On the flipside, Pack Pres Murphy has declined to comment. Why no announcement? Douglas is confident the deal is done, the Pack don't want to tip their hand before the upcoming draft.
I think that's an interesting theory given the facts, and not outside the realm of possibility. Likely, even.
because 13 to 15 is the equivalent of a late 3rd rounder. also depends who's on the board if GB likes a guy as a top 10 player and he's there at 13 and the jets are willing it makes sense to essentially get a late 3rd pick back in value and get that player as far as davis goes, their HC already said they need a veteran WR. they traded adams then lost lazard. their top 2 WRs are entering year 2 right now and love is young and needs a solid vet. davis would replace lazard for them. small things like that could push the trade over the edge and get it done. us sliding back 2 picks and adding davis is like a 3rd and 6th in value already. throw in a 2nd this year and that's already great value
You are absolutely correct - "no fact is a fact until it happens." All the talk in the world does not make Aaron Charles Rodgers the quarterback of the New York Jets until all the necessary agreements and contracts are in place. Talk is cheap - intent is talk, not action. fact noun a thing that is known or proved to be true. "he ignores some historical and economic facts" Similar: reality factuality certitude truth naked truth verity information used as evidence or as part of a report or news article. "even the most inventive journalism peters out without facts, and in this case there were no facts"
This forum is one of the tools I use to keep from losing my sanity through all this. I come for civil discourse with folks who are like-minded masochists, aka Jets fans.
I am so sorry to hear that you are going thru all of this. Hope you kick cancers ass and Jets kick Packers ass
The latest, per Schefter via NBC Sports Edge: ESPN's Adam Schefter reports "it doesn't sound like" Aaron Rodgers will be traded to the Jets before the NFL Draft. "Green Bay seems quite content to wait until after the draft to make a trade," he said. "Both sides seem to be dug in." Jets general manager Joe Douglas said last week that Rodgers is "going to be here" amid rumors that the team will wait until the second day of the NFL Draft to make the move for Rodgers, 39. Rodgers' massive contract has proved difficult to move, and differences in compensation have come to the forefront in recent weeks. Still, the Packers are likely to deal Rodgers to New York sometime before the heat death of the universe. I cannot wait to one day learn what the hell was happening behind the scenes for these months. GB wants to trade Rodgers, Rodgers doesn't want to be in GB, Jets want Rodgers/Rodgers wants to go to the Jets. What is the holdup? It would be seemingly crazy for the Packers to not want to get something done before the draft. But if that's the case, I'd be thrilled to see the Jets hold on to both 2nds this year and let the pick be a conditional in 2024. What a boost to their roster. That said, I'd be shocked if it doesn't happen before the draft
Thanks for posting this. I firmly believe Packers have a lot more to lose to drag this out. I love ow JD is standing firm. A 39 year old QB who was at the brink of retirement should not command a 1st or 2nd rounder. Let Packers wait until July if they want.
With a pre June 1st trade the Pack take about a $8.7M cap hit with over $40M in dead money, with a post June 1st trade they save $15.7M on the cap and the dead money drops to $15.8M. Is it possible the deal is set but they are waiting to June 1st to announce? I'm not sure if there is a league rule that prohibits saying as such or if they don't want all the pundits trashing one side or the other if the full details are made known prior to June 1st.
June first will also forfeit any draft picks this year. May be the deal is in place with draft picks in 2024 and 2025.there may be a 2025 conditional that can go as high as a number one if he wins the AFC
This is a massive botch by the Packers if they don't get any 2023 draft capital for Rodgers. They have to make a decision on Jordan Love in May... if I were them I'd want to do everything in my power to make sure he's got talent around him rather than hope he's the guy and worry about adding pieces around him in 2024.
Why does the 23 dead cap matter for them? Majority of the top FAs are already signed, it isn't like they will make crazy signings in '23 to improve the roster. It also means that $24m of that $40m in dead money gets pushed back into '24-- why would they want any of Rodgers dead money in that year if they can get rid of it all this year? I never understood why that was such a big thing for GB, would rather eat it all this year and the extra $24m in '24.
The dead money may not be a big factor but the $8.7M cap hit is. They currently have about $21M, the $8.6 takes them to $12.4M, estimated rookie pool for them is $10.4M, leaving them $2M
