Yeah…I’m not thrilled about the cost at all…could’ve been better (for example, I’d feel much better if next year’s pick was a 3 that could upgrade to a 2 if we make the playoffs and a 1 if we make the Super Bowl)…but also this could’ve been worse. as it stands, we give up a 2 this year, swap back two spots, and give up a 1 next year. OK not great but not “franchise killing” either… Realistically, assuming AR plays the 65% of plays I think it’s more likely than not that we make the playoffs. I also think that AR is going to play more than one year, and I’d be shocked if JD and AR haven’t talked about that…I’m guessing JD feels pretty confident we have 2 or 3 years out of AR. Now, he can always change his mind, or he can fall off a cliff like Peyton did at 40, but who knows…maybe not. Who knows, maybe some of the contract revisions that we are hearing about may involve incentives to play in 2024. Personally, I think he has a bit of a chip on his shoulder, and I’m feeling like he plays 2-3 years and I’m feeling pretty good about playoffs next year with AR on board…shit we almost made it with literally the WORST QB play in the league last year. So playoffs is definitely the expectation now. Again, not thrilled about giving up as much as we did, but on the other hand, no other QB was as good (not even Lamar, though he’s younger at least)…if this goes south and we don’t make the playoffs and he retires, yes we’re fucked without that first rounder next year, but I think there is at least just as good a chance that he plays well, we make the playoffs, and next year’s first rounder is in the mid-20’s too… Not the end of the world as we know it…
That presumes you have knowledge of the value, which most of us here clearly do not…..period. And using some obsolete comp like Bret ten years removed ain’t it.
The bottom line is if we make the playoffs then it'll be worth it. I think we'd all give up a pick in the 20's to end the playoff drought. If we don't, we have to at least hope Rodgers played under 65% of the snaps for whatever reason.
He would have gone to another team or if forced to retired at that point You taking that risk ? I am not
Yeah this is among the lines I’m thinking …a lot of doom and gloom around here so far. I get the whole conditional first round pick next year is overpay but we all also knew deep down Rodgers wasn’t coming cheap. The Jets have enough young talent onboard (hopefully including the 2023 draft picks) to withstand losing a single high pick in ‘24. However now that they have Rodgers the scouting dept needs to get to work to find his replacement now so the organization doesn’t find themselves in this same predicament two years down the road ….and without a first rounder next year they’re gonna have to get quite creative. I think Rodgers plays 2 years ….. As for 2023 the Jets are now a playoff team roster wise and it’s been a long time since anybody could say that ..
Because 20-46 is an acceptable first 4 years as Jet's GM? I just don't understand where you are coming from? Alternate universe maybe? There's never been a Jets GM this bad after 4 seasons. Literally never. There've been two with worse records: Al Ward and Rich Kotite, but both of them got fired after season two. We're in uncharted bad territory here.
Wonder if Corey Davis gets moved for a mid round pick… or just cut. I still think it’s bizarre to be paying $10 mil for a redundant WR… when the guy he’s redundant with is better and also making $10 mil.
Parcells screwed us with Peyton Manning (and Belichick for that matter), but he still built a winning team that carried us through an entire decade even with Woody as owner.
When you start to focus on the negatives of this trade, just think about all the first round busts the JETS have drafted over the years.... kinda takes the sting out of it
Great deal! The doom and gloom on here over giving up a LOW first rounder NEXT YEAR is ridiculous! We’d probably just use it to draft the next Kyle Wilson or Calvin Pryor! Ohhh the humanity!!! Let’s go win a goddam Super Bowl.
I liked your Post because I am no fan of JD..after macagnan and Idzik Douglas looks like a combo of Einstein and Nils Bohr in terms of relative management heh He is actually a below average GM trying to salvage the embarrassment of Z Wilson pick among a number of poor years BUT I think the QB A Rogers still has some rabbits left in his hat...we shall see Br4d
