I hope Rodgers leads us to at least the post season. My safest prediction is that this thread gets bumped in late November with a very different tone.
Orlovsky on twitter — Aaron Rodgers threw 12 INTS last season 5 of those were poor throws or poor decisions 7 of them were tips or Hail Mary/1 on 1 heaves to give a guy an opportunity ball 5 we’re on him He’s gonna be tremendous this season
Even if he didn't try to be a mentor, I was confident that his presence, and being able to watch him up close in practice, team meetings, and games, would provide a huge lift to Zach. But the fact that he's actively being a mentor (to all the young players) is outstanding and will raise their performance to a whole other level. In essence he'll be a like a coach on the field. He's worth whatever the Jets paid for him and more.
He hasn't played a game for us yet; if it turns out last year was the start of his decline, all those people will turn out to have been right.
I've got a little 'wait & see' myself... but even a declining Rodgers is better than any QB we've had in next to forever. Our defense will get us more wins than Rodgers I'd bet.
The key is the o-line. They play decent Rodgers will be Rodgers. They play like the second half of last season we might see Zach sooner than any of us want.
Well yeah by Jets standards a declining Rodgers is "good," but we could have gotten that production by signing Carr and not having to give up any picks. This is only worth it if Rodgers bounces back to at least top 10 QB level. Not saying he won't, but it's too soon to say who was right about wanting him or not.
Agreed... too soon on Rodgers... hopefully he stays motivated & involved. But I don't think Carr would have come here... so there's that.
From Pro Football Network: Jets QB Aaron Rodgers Already Making a Difference When the New York Jets finished their OTA sessions in June, word emanating from around the team was that 10-time Pro Bowl quarterback Aaron Rodgers was an even better leader than they anticipated. One example was when the four-time NFL MVP called third-year QB Zach Wilson over to have him listen in and view how he called one of the situational drills (believed to be the two-minute or four-minute offense), a source said. And while Rodgers didn’t practice a whole lot during the spring sessions, his presence was clearly felt. Whether it was bonding with his new coaches or with some of the front office members, Rodgers made it a point to connect with members of his new team. So far in training camp, word around the team is Rodgers, who is in his 19th NFL season, has been very sharp in practice and has quickly developed outstanding chemistry with second-year wide receiver Garrett Wilson in particular.
I like Carr but how many playoff games has he won. Rodgers put up those stats last season with a bad thumb and a bad team.
