yup - just saw this article. hopefully all went well and next steps start soon after Jets QB Aaron Rodgers says surgery for torn Achilles 'went great' - ESPN
Jets said they have been in contact every day; and he will be back with the team asap, which is big imo, because even though he isn’t playing , his presence could be important.
Yeah, as a $112,500,000.00 cheerleader. The Jets should have brought him in as a QB Coach. I kid, I kid. Sort of. I like how Aaron Rodgers said, "I shall yet rise again." Well, Halloween is coming up and all. He can dress as Aaron Rodgers. Or an Aaron Rodgers zombie. Or Jesus.
That is essentially what he will be when if/when he rejoins the team. Does he really want Zach to succeed would be my question. If Zach has a break out year he is essentially done as a Jet. What if Zach has an Ok season then we could see AR back.
Trying to stay positive. A QB controversy wouldn't be a bad thing because that means Wilson isn't a loss. The potential for the Jets to mishandle it is another story. Cart before the horse in any regard.
I'm increasingly starting to feel like this Dallas game will end up being "the Zach Wilson game" as it seems incredibly likely that he's either going to show signs he's gotten better and there is some hope, or the opposite and all the hugs, support, and supportive talk in the world will no longer be able to cover up the fact that its panic time. Its like we're finally really at a fork in the road here and its very hard to see how we're going to get through this Dallas game without knowing which way we're headed.
I don't believe that for one second. If Rodgers is healthy and doesn't retire, he will be the Jets QB next year no matter what Wilson does, with the exception of maybe a super bowl win, but that are the odds of that happening?
I think there can still be questions after this game. I can see a bad o-line performance Zach putting up similar stats to last game and the haters will continue hating. If goes out and throws three picks and 50% completion percentage then yes we will know.
I do not think the team will turn to a 41-year-old QB coming off an Achilles if Zach proves he is the guy. If he plays ok then yes but if he is top 15 type QB this season no way they go back to AR. With the caveat the play matches the ranking. This is putting the cart way before the horse. Let's see how Zach does against Dallas first.
Disagree. Top 15 wouldn't cut it. It's have to be top 5 and there would still be a lot of conversations in the building.
I am not going jinx it so I will put this discussion on hold until Zach proves he can play QB in the NFL.
Hey, I'll be rooting like hell for him. But I think he needs to be too 8 or so for them to pick up his option and then he'd have to beat Rodgers out in camp. After all Rodgers did for the Jets I can't see them telling him to pound sand because Wilson was a top 15 QB.
GIVE ME THE DOUBTS! ALL I NEED IS ONE LITTLE EXTRA % OF MOTIVATION AND WATCH WHAT I DO! see you in 2024 Aaron
I mean I find it beyond unlikely for many reasons he'd be back for a deep playoff run... But it's very encouraging to hear how motivated he is to get back to the field and using any doubt and timetables as extra motivation. There's no longer any doubt he intends to return ASAP.
I think he wants Zach to succeed. I disagree that if Zach has a break out year that Rodgers is essentially done as a Jet. With all that Rodgers has done to make the team better, including taking a pay cut, and still being a HOF QB, I believe that he would be back and still be the starter. I believe that Woody would still want that as would most of the fanbase and media. I'd like to see Rodgers win one with the Jets too. I think they'd probably extend Zach and promise that he would be the starter in 2025 or should Rodgers get injured again in 2024, but they'd give Rodgers one more year to make it happen. If he faltered or struggled they'd know they had Zach that could take over.
