We've been playing poorly and are still 1 game out of the lead. Imagine what would happen if we start playing well? It's possible to progress, sometimes the light just turns on for teams.

If we win next week we're right in the thick of things, especially if the Pats lose @Indy.

That's pretty much how I see it. This thread feels to me like a thread that would have been valid at this point of the Jets lost to the Chiefs instead of beating them. A win is a win and the Jets already have matched last season's win total and we're not halfway through yet.

I'm also on board with this one. It's pretty clear the Jets should be 5-2 right now with the talent they have and so the coaching has cost them a game so far. Can't continue like that and hope to do anything at the end of the year.

Since we are only eight games in..I don't think this has been a wasted season yet.

It's definitely been a frustrating season. Bringing Favre was a bold move that reeks "we are going all in", but at the same time "desperate to make a statement" I think the FO overestimated where this team was at. I would have thought you bring an experienced gunslinger if you think you're on the cusp of something great. After coming off a 4-12 season, this team was nowhere near that. He's here now, so let's see how it turns out. I love his enthusiam and his play-making potrntial. His penchant for throwing INTs...is a little nerve-wracking. Case in point, the pick-6 he threw yesterday, just had me shaking my head. But as I said, you take the good with the bad with number four.

The areas that have really disappointed me are the offensive line and the defense. Actually the lack of turnovers by the defense. They have intercepted the ball only five times, good for 18th in the league. I don't think you can win games if your defense is not forcing turnovers. Is it me,or does anyone else think this D plays too timid? David Harris, who everyone loved last year, is having a decent season with 45 tackles. But compared to last year's first game starter, Jonathan Vilma , who leads the league with 72, his stats seem just ok. If this team wants to make the playoffs, the defense, especially the back seven, has to pick up the intensity.

I guess what I'm trying to say, is that I agree with most of DeathbyJets' post, but I wanted to just wanted to rant on.

I guess we'll agree to disagree then. We could have had another season with Pennington at the helm and been no better off then we are now, and no closer to finding the QB of the future. For my money I'd rather watch Brett Favre.

I think it is less a factor of the team jelling than it is about addressing weaknesses on both sides of the ball. Our weaknesses remain the same week after week.

No physical presence in the offensive backfield leading to teams double-covering wideouts.

Defense gets picked apart every week by TEs and slot receivers.

Erratic and sometimes dumbfounding playcalling on both sides of the ball.

I am falling off our CS's bandwagon at lightning speed. If the personnel available can't handle their duties, things have to be done to mask those deficiencies.

im happy with how the season is going. being a jet fan for 30yrs ive learned to take victories any way they come. we didnt blow out miami in the midnight miracle but it still felt pretty dam good.

dont bash the favre thing. the only alternative was to chad, and the same discussion would be had.....we need a qb of the future. so we didnt help the future any by getting favre but we defiently helped the here and now, if only by a few games.

    thats where we are

How are the Giants going to beat legit teams when they suck in Cleveland? How is Dallas going anywhere when they lose to St. Louis. How are the Pats going anywhere when they lose at home to the Dolphins? There are no legit teams in the AFC this year. Fraud teams make the playoffs in the NFL every year. The system ensures it and the league profits from it.

I don't understand when people use the word "overrated" about Favre. He's the NFL career leader in yards and TDs, he's unbelievably tough physically, got a freakish arm....

I don't even like the guy, but calling him overrated is like calling Babe Ruth or Johnny Unitas overrated.

Based off of what? The few snaps he got in preseason? Henne is just as big of a question mark as Ratliff.

he wasn't aweful two seasons ago. He was aweful during the 4-12 season. The 8-8 year afterwords he was solid. Not great, but solid.

1st....This team isn't very old at all. Favre & Faneca are the only expensive vets I can think of. Faneca is needed. Favre...He's good for the thrill, but Jets' gotta find out if Clemens & Ratliff can handle NFL Sundays.

Jets' have to draft OL & DL...build a solid foundation & then there ready for sustained success.

Jets need a RG & RT & a back-up NT & 2 starting caliber DE's. Then there ready for contention.

Honestly, even if we kept Pennington, we wouldn't be in a better situation. We've got an older QB with a couple of seasons left. Then we move on to Ratliff in 2010 or thereabouts.

The Jets' are still a patchworked team, no matter how they try to disguise it.
Jets' are weak at OC {offensive Cordinator} & DC {Defensive cordinator} positions. This in turn makes Mangini look bad. Jets are also weak at GM {General Manager} position. Mangini is the best piece of the whole show actually. He's just surrounded by ineptness. Jets are very slow to diagnois their team weaknesses until its to late. Jets' need front office help.

Look at the Giants...Spagnolia's defense & solid {but not pretty} drafting is what has really resurrected the NY Giants team.

If Mangini had of pried Rob Ryan away from Raiders last off-season, we probally would be talking playoffs already. Mangini hasn't changed his original OC/DC yet & some changes or tweaks need to be made.

Funny but true....Alot of the gadget plays that Shotty calls would probally look & work alot better with a better OL.

Question....Marquis Murrell...One of Jets' better pass rushers, why doesn't he get into the game ? He needs to be bookend with Pace on passing downs. The guy is a very good passrusher.

I hope they are Jets for life! They are young and good defenders. With a ton of potential!
