Why do we have to be put in a position to ignore him. Why doesn't he keep his moronic posts out of our Yankee threads if he no intention to discuss anything in any responsible fashion?
I know, I meant that the Mets were similar to the Yankees, and the Phillies to the Sox. I probably should've been clearer, my bad.
maybe we just haven't hit our stride here in the baseball threads. maybe all the territorial nonsense about met fans not being "allowed" to post in yankee threads is a big joke. i sure hope so.
River = Elite. Farnsworth is hell. One year he's good, one year hes bad. I don't remember how went last year went for him, but this year will be the opposite. Its what he's done his whole career. He does look beastly now, he lost alot weight but its all muscle there. Vizcaino has a 1.3 career WHIP and is coming from NL to AL. Paplebon might get hurt, but otherwise I think he's fine. He's got the stuff and the youth.
Anyone can post anywhere they want, I just dont like when people go off and say stupid shit like Shade does then just say the Yankee fans are arrogant and full of it when we reply.
Shade's posts are all in good fun. The problem is there's always one person that takes him deadly seriously and then it escalates from there.
Farnsworth had back problems last year, but when healthy was solid. This year he's in better shape and is working on adding a changeup which would make him really dangerous. Vizcaino has already had a 119 ERA+ season in the AL. He does have a high WHIP, but he's also the 4th guy in the bullpen, 5th if Bruney pitches well again. And I expect Papelbon to be one of the best closers in MLB again this year... but as a Yankees fan, I'd much rather him be the closer than a starter.
This thread can also be used as a HR tracker since he is only 35 HRs away from 500. So Mondays HR was number 465
Brendan Donnelly has had more than one good year in the majors, and his season last year wasn't as bad as the numbers look. Over a three game stretch in July, Donnelly gave up 12 runs in 1.1 IP, then missed time with a back injury. Take that out, and he had a 2.44 ERA last year. Mike Timlin also has a proven track record of success. He also had basically the EXACT same year as one of your examples, Farnsworth, last year. Timlin posted a 4.36 ERA in 64 innings, and Farnsworth had a 4.36 ERA in 66 innings. Farnsworth also had a higher WHIP. JC Romero has been a very good reliever throughout his career, though he was horrible last year. While that could be the beginning of the end for him, it could also just as easily be nothing more than a down year. Jonathan Papelbon could have his ERA triple and still be one of the top closers in the league, even though he should be in the rotation. The Sox' bullpen isn't as bad as you make it out to be. As for your earlier comment about the Yankees rotation being better? Carl Pavano was your opening day starter. That's really all that needs to be said.
So let me get this straight. In the 80's it was okay not to win championships because you were "growing up with them"? Their evident lack of "clutchosity" was okay for them, yet not Arod? Was it the 1994 strike that made "only championships matter"? Watching a 162 games season and only getting enjoyment out of it if it leads to a championship must be a grown up thing, and exclusive to the late 90's early 00's.
Even with Arod's outstanding "numbers", he may well be the most overrated player in major league baseball history. Joe Torre had it right when he batted Arod eight in the AL championship series.
