You're kidding again, right? It's not center field and he's not old and fat you know. Even if he was he would still have more range then about 30 of the SS playing today anyway. You do know he was also one of the best defensive SS when he played that position.
The biggest mistake Brian Cashman could have made as a GM, besides signing Doug Meinzkeitwicz, was underestimating Arod's value to the Yankees. Boras is going to demand a 10 year, 500 million dollar contract after this year.
And I'd give it to him. He's the best player in the sport. And for what it's worth, I agree that Reyes is the best CURRENT SS in MLB.
Just read this on the Yankee site: "Rodriguez, baseball's most underpaid superstar......" I totally agree with you about Cashman and don't trust him for a second to do what's right with Arod. It's time for Steinbrenner to reassert his control over the team. At least in this case. If they give him an extension they still get 30 million chipped in by Texas over the next three years. What will player salaries be 3 years from now anyway? Seems like whatever they give him would be a bargain. What better then to see some records set in the new stadium by Arod. It won't have any mystique of it's own until some history is made and I don't see anybody else on the horizon to make any.
What did you want him to do? renegotiate his insane contract after 3 years where ARod didn't play like ARod? cashman did the absolute right thing, if ARod wans to opt out he opts out and if the Yanks wnat to keep him they'll pay but there's no way he should have renegotiated his deal. ARod is simply amazing, it's unreal watching this guy play.
It worked for barry, maybe the steroids messed w/ his head so he couldn't worry about choking again. piazza really did leave a legacy w/ the Mets.
Don..if AROD opts out of his contract, he's a free agent. Texas will not be responsible for 30 million dollars over the next 3 years. He's opting out. If the Yankees re-sign him, thats a brand new contract. If the Yankees try to re-claim that $30 million, the Ranger lawyers will strike that down.
Thats assuming Arod does not apply for free agency. With Boras as his agent, thats unlikely. He knows that David Wright is already on record as saying he would move to second base for Arod. Nothing more that Boras would love than a bidding war between the Yankees and Mets. The Mets are already worth 750,000,000 without taking into consideration their sports netswork, SNY. The Mets would love to see AROD chase the all-time home run record in Citi-Field. Don't underestimate Omar and the Wilpons. You know they out-bidded the Yankees for K-Dice.

Exactly my point. If he does opt out and somebody else signs him that team will get nothing from Texas. That's a Yankee only deal. So the Yankees could give him a 3 year 90 million dollar extension and it still wouldn't cost them more on average then they are already paying Jeter and Giambi per year for the next 6 years.
Do you really think Boras would settle for a 90 million 3 year extension? GUARANTEED Boras has him opt out. Get used to that idea.
It depends on Arod himself. Sure Boras will try and get him to opt out. If he wants to stay with the Yankees then he will get him the best deal he can with them. Do you think anybody else will give a 32 year old player more then 171 million for 6 years? I doubt even the Mets would do that. Of course, as I said before, with Cashman running the show I'm not even sure they would offer him an extension. If that's the case then obviously it's a different story and of course he will opt out.
Soriano is SIX MONTHS younger than Arod and he signed for EIGHT years and 136 million dollars. And when AROD is chasing all the records, he will sell out every stadium. Boras knows this better than anybody. Arod will easily sign his next contract for over 250,000,000, guaranteed deal. And you want him to extend to the Yankees for 3 years, 90 million? Arod would fire your ass in a heartbeat if you were his agent.
Nobody said Chicago was very smart. So what are you thinking he will get in the way of a contract then and from who? I would love to hear that. Selling out visiting stadiums does nothing for the team he's on BTW. Not unless it somehow effects revenue sharing and those teams sell out anyway.
