Not true. No one knows what the pitchers will do. How many home runs that come when the score is 5-0 end up the game winner? Too bad there are no statistics kept on hits that put you ahead but may not be the game winner because of poor pitching. All RBIs are important. I'll keep to that belief.
Grape Ape was better than him and he had a million clutch hits unlike ARod. I'll save my ARod stuff for when he struggles, right now he's playing the best I have seen him play in 3+ years so I'll lay off him. I hope it continues and he breaks through like Manning finally did. I'm not in the mod to bash the guy b/c he doesn't deserve it right now.
ARod had a higher OBP and SLG then Ortiz in 05. How can you say that Ortiz had a "million clutch hits" if you didn't watch the Red Sox every day that year?
You are insane bro. If I had to choose between them, that would mean the chosen player would be my shortstop. There is no way on this planet I would EVER choose Jeter over ARod as my starting shortstop.
B/c he won about 10 games w/ late inning or game ending HRs or hits. I'll take the Championships, you can have the MVPs. Give me Jeter any day. One guy has proven to shine under the bright lights while the other has proven he can't perform under them.
The Yankees won on the strength of the pitching, and being able to get men on base to score. ARod in the middle of the '96-'00 lineups would not have been the choker he's been in recent history. You're comparing apples and oranges. Is Jeter clutch? Of course he is. Has he been more clutch in the post-season than ARod? Sure. Is he as talented as ARod? Not even close. Fortunately, we don't have to worry about choosing one or the other.
And this means that ARod didn't deserve the MVP? A case can certainly be made for Ortiz winning the MVP, he and ARod both had excellent years. You make it sound like ARod's season wasn't even MVP worthy, which is absurd.
Wow... all I can say is wow. As a die hard Yankee fan, but also a true BASEBALL fan, i can say that Jeter isn't the best shortstop on his team. The best shortstop on the team plays third base. Hense there is no way you can say Jeter is the better player. He is however the player who doesn't get stuck in his own head ever... His ability to forget a bad play, bad at bat what ever and just move on is what seperates him from A-Rod. As far as talent and skill, Jeter is far behind Gay Rod. However there are many an intagible that Jeter brings... Leadership, being the clutch player he is, and begin able to play under the spotlight. These are all things Gay Rod can not handle... just needed to add this in.
Maybe we can end this argument. Arod's post season career BA is .256, Mickey Mantle's is .257. Arod has had playoff series averages of .313, .308, .409(against the yankees), .421 before coming to NY. His yankee averages have been only .258, .133 and .071 which we all know. But to say he isn't clutch or can't play or any other totally ignorant remark is just ridiculous. Oh, and DiMaggio's is .271
Our lineup the past 3 years has been more potent than any lineup during the dynasty years- why would he have come throuhg in the dynasty years and not today? I never said Jeter was as talented as ARod, ARod is immensely more physically gifted than Jeter but there's more to the game than the physical side and Jeter has mastered the mental part while ARod struggles.
He has 2 or 3 hits w/ RISP in his postseason career, again you can look at the averages but wher did those #s come from? Mantle had 18 HRs and 40 RBI in 230 postseason ABs, ARod has 6 HR and 16 RBI in 132 postseason ABs. mantle had a HR one ever 12.7 ABs in ostseason, ARod one every 22 ABs. Mantle had an RBI ever 5.75 ABs, ARod every 8.25. Average isn't everything, Mantle also had a higher OBP than ARod and a slugging % of .535 compared to .485. please don't compare october ARod to October Mantle.
So what? Mantle played in 12 WS and 65 games. Arod has played in 7 series and 21 games. The point is neither of them hit well. And for all that slugging you talk about that Mantle did they lost 5 of those 12 WS. So it must have been the fact he didn't get many hits, right? I guess he just wasn't clutch when it mattered and the game was on the line.
per AB mAntle hit alot better, I wasn't alive to see him play but 18 HRs in the WS is pretty damn good. Puitching is usually best in october as the best ptiching teams usually make it and to hit 1 HR every 12.7 ABs is damn impressive. ARod in the reg season has hit one every 14.5 ABs and that's in the small ballpark, thin pitching, steroid era. In the reg season mantle hit one every 15 ABs so he obviously stepped it up in postseason. ARod goes from one every 14.5 in the reg season to one every 22 in postseason.
You guys can laugh all you want, there is a reason ARod is being run out of Town. Fantasy stats aren't the measure of greatness, there is more to it and jeter is the better overall player.
All those HRs and RBIs must have come when the score was 8-0 or they would have won those 5 WS they lost.
Why do you keep saying fantasy stats? This isn't FF where you get a point for every 10 yards. HRs and RBIs are real. There is no fantasy to them. There isn't anybody in the world outside the Jeter RahRah boys who would say Jeter is a better player then Arod. Not a one.
