He has 14 win shares, tied for 8th most in the majors. However, there are 25 players with more, including Jeter (16) and Giambi (15).

What, you think that his son in law (Steve Swindal, who Steinbrenner's already announced will inherit the team) is going to up and give away argueably the most talented player in baseball and reigning MVP?

Personally I'd be glad if Rodriguez is the one to break Aaron's record. He's a great natural power hitter--better him than some human juice box like Bonds.

I have no problem with him breaking the record. But let him make a zillion dollars off of someone else's payroll doing it.

It's pretty funny that L_T_S's post seems to have gone by without notice. It is Yankees fans who constantly criticize A Rod, not Mets fans - saying that you think Wright is having a better year than A Rod is not criticizing him. (And I'm not saying it's all Yankees fans, but the people who criticize him are overwhelmingly Yankees fans.)

Rodriguez has had a great career, and is still one of the top players in baseball. Anyone who disputes that is IMO crazy. I sincerely hope that Tom Glavine gets his 300th career win with the Mets next year (which would mean that he's pitching a little better than he is right now!), but I'm not going to be foolish enough to call him a "great Met." If A Rod does end up playing 7-10 years with the Yankees and retiring as a Yankee that could change things, but right now? It's a ridiculous notion.

For as many problems I have with the guy, it must be really awesome to get your 450th homer and 2000th hit at the same exact time.

Except for that illegal gambling he was involved in.

Congrats to ARod, I've said enough about him that I don't need to pile on now.

Yankee fans don't deserve a player like ARod. He is on his way to having another 40 HR 120 RBI year yet he is booed constantly..

that argument carries no water.....its not like anyones pitching around him...he sees plenty to hit, he just doesnt do it......not to mention, the biggest problem yankee fan have with the guy is his lack of hitting in the big spot....bases loaded 2 out game on the line, im pretty sure theyre not pitching around him

He's been intentionally walked 5 times, leading the Yankees.

And I don't think anybody is going to be pitched around with the bases loaded and the game on the line...that's justs dumb.

David Ortiz has been intentionally walked 12 times, leading the AL. He seems to be fine.

Irrelevant, but good for him. And Ortiz is tied with Raul Ibanez of all people, go figure.

It is relevant, unless I miss your point. Arod's problem is NOT that he isn't getting anything to hit. Ortiz has been IBB'd more than him, plus has some pretty assinine shifts put on him, and is fine. And no one in the league is grooving them in to Papi with the game on the line. Arod needs to learn to wait for a pitcher to make a mistake, and then make them pay for it.

Oh, oh, alright that's understandable. I was just commenting on johnnyd's assertion that teams aren't afraid to pitch to him big spots.

Ortiz is a better hitter right now, and I'd say second in the entire game to Pujols. A-Rod is not as good a hitter with the game on the line as Ortiz, but who is? I'm just trying to disprove the notion that he's a complete worthless paper tiger, even though it is fun to say he is.

You don't get to be the highest-paid player in the game without knowing how to wait for your pitch. A-Rod needs to stay away from the shrinks and self-help tapes and pull his head out of his ass. Headcases don't make the money he makes unless they are Hollywood icons - AKA professional fakes.

Oh,we don't deserve him now? He is on the way to putting up decent #s,but in those numbers is an already higher error # than he had all of last year. He gets out in big spots, and has put up his numbers when it didn't matter in most cases. I know that is just beautiful for Met fans, because that's the kind of thing that has highlighted their seasons for 20 years, but over the bridge,we base things on winning games and championships.
