You guys forgot about 1 thing, everytime we get a top round pick, we screw that up too. Never use them and trade him out, or he get's hurt. Stop worrying about who can we p/u in the draft and pull CP out now. Should of been puuled out 3 games ago. WASTING TIME.
Good points, fellas, but here's a couple more: 1) The only respect Mangini should be concerned with losing is if he's viewed as a guy who can't or won't make hard decisions. HE OWES IT to the rest of the team to "put the team in the best position to win," something he's always professing himself, for Christ's sake. At 1-5, with 6 crucial INTs in 3 games and a non-existent deep passing attack, for the rest of the team to keep on breaking their asses and have any hope at all, Pennington needs to ride the pine. 2) Also, and for the same reason (because all the players need to have hope that at least things will be different next season) we need to find out what we have in Clemens, still a relative unknown despite the Ravens game. We have 10 games remaining, with perhaps the easiest of defenses for us to score against this Sunday. This week is the perfect opportunity to get him in there and let him rip and build confidence, not only in himself but in his teamates. 3) Speaking of injuries, nothing gets our receiver corps more banged up than being hung out to dry. The one pass to Leon Washington yesterday had me gasping for air. It was only a 3-yard pass, but still lacked accuracy even at that short distance! It had Leon leaping into the air and exposing his rib cage in a totally unnecessary, typical Chinese Firedrill-type, Pennington panic pass. There were others too. Chad's accuracy was the one thing that always bailed him out of the lack of arm-strength. Now we don't even have that. My 8 year-old grandson could have delivered the ball to Leon with greater accuracy WITHOUT hanging him out to dry that way. it was only through sheer luck that the defender didn't crack Leon's ribcage a vicious blow. 4) We have 10 games left and we've won one. I know this sounds nuts (and it is), but statistically, we have a mathematical chance of going 11-5. I know, pass the joint this way, please. But my point is, you'll never know what kind of spark could be ignited with Clemens winning this weekend and the rest of the team getting on board with what is inevitably going to take place sooner or later. With Jones looking like a one-man spark plug yesterday and the defense even responding by playing better than we've seen in awhile, what might happen if you add another spark plug to the equation... one that could stretch the field and REALLY give Jones some running room! Now you bring in Leon and Brad Smith and Baker and Cotchery and all those weapons that we know we have that are all capable of breaking games wide open. This team needs to kick it up a notch, not have the HC cling to conservative, antiquated, "stay the course," non-sensical, "consistency" sound bites. Consistent at what? Sucking?
I want Pennington dressed in Civilian clothes with a headset as part of the coaching staff. I don't want to ever have to look at him take a Snap in a Jets uniform ever again.
I still don't understand the logic that sticking with a QB who can do absolutely nothing with the offense and is responsible, mostly, for the 1-5 record, isn't throwing in the towel on the season but starting a new QB who might be better is. Chad is 1-4. playing him has in fact thrown in the towel on the season, plain and simple.
Pass blocking wise, the line is there... Clemens faired alright behind it when it wasn't close, in week 2... He'll be just fine behind the line now, which hasn't given up too many pressures the last 2 or 3 weeks
I agree. In fact, if anyone caught the player interviews last night after the game, you would have noticed how some of the O-line and receiver corps were pumped over what Jones did yesterday. This was the best running attack we've seen in a long time and you could tell they were all sparked over it. Now, it's time to provide the other spark. There's no telling where things could go of you get all these guys pumped up over a decent running attack AND a good passing attack on the field at the same time. DO IT!
Could it be possible that the coaching staff knows that Pennington is better than Clemens and changing QB's won't help? Maybe they know alot more than we do, maybe. Maybe not, but maybe?
I just can't see any reason to keep Pennington in there. As was noted by others, the OL pass blocking has NOT been the problem all year, and the run blocking was much better yesterday as well, so I don't see how this is risking Clemens' health. If he turns out to be good, to me it is FAR better to finish 7-9 and know that you have the QB of the future than to finish 3-13 and not have a clue. If he turns out to be bad, you find it out, and have a poor record (and high draft pick) anyway. Given how horrible Pennington has been all year, if Mangini would "lose the team" if he benched him, they're already lost.
The O Line definitely has some more improvement to do but yesterday definitely did I think the best job all season of protecting Chad and giving us a chance to run. Unfortunately most of those runs that were successful weren't up the middle but were wide slants around the o line. I want Pennington to be awesome, I think he's a great guy and he's got a lot of talent, but unfortunately he's injury prone and without a serious deep passing threat and with the way the team current looks, we're not winning a championship with him period. He's not a championship qb. I've wanted so badly for the past few years to give him the benefit of the doubt, and cheer for him, but I've finally reached the point where I'd like to see Clemens in. Especially after the Ravens game, I think he's got real potential. It just doesn't feel like we have a chance at a championship with Pennington, and for that reason a change needs to be made.
Yea, I agree. We could do easily do without potential veteran headaches like Eric Barton, Dewayne Robertson, Shaun Ellis because their lack of production would not hurt the Jets by its absence. I think Mangini is giving Chad every benefit of the doubt here, which is fine. If he keeps throwing INTs, how can any vet in his right mind defend Chad being pulled. Mangini is giving Chad the rope to hang himself. I'm more disappointed in the regression of the defense than I am with how Mangini is handling the Pennington situation.
Regardless of his reasoning – Manstupid is about three more losses from completely losing this team. He doesn’t have nearly enough street credit to survive a 3 – 13 season.
I don't. He can't win games now, so how is he going to win games a few years in the future? Does his arm magically get stronger? Does he regain his confidence through watching Clemens play week in and week out? When Pennington takes a seat the Jets offense changes, hopefully for good. Clemens will be throwing the ball deep because he can: it adds a missing link too this horribly pathetic offense. Another poster stated that it would take time to change the offense to the strengths of Clemens this season...well 2 years removed from Chad the offense will be in such a state that he probably won't be very effective in it. Thats not a stretch to imagine seeing as he's not effective in the offense thats tailored for him now. Now if we have an O-line full of top tier talent and some solid skill position players on offense then maybe...maybe he can come in and not lose a game for us. The scouting report on him won't change though, and coaches memories are not that short.
if the team detests him as did the giants did against tom c. last year, what will become of it, a turnaround like the giants seem to be having this year, or a complete deterioration, which is what it looks like is happening with the teams morale in the shitter which is where we r now........?
First highlight-Herman Edwards 2.0? Second Highlight-Completely Agree if this is seriously the thought process mangini has, hes a complete douchebag. i could understand the whole "loyalty schtick" up to this point. but at 1-5, anybody whos ever suited up and tied cleats can recognize chad needs to be replaced. at this point loyalty isnt the question, its balls. you want to win your players over? win games. theyll forget about chad pennington and the little C sewn on his jersey real quick if they actually win.
"you want to win your players over? win games. they'll forget about chad pennington and the little C sewn on his jersey real quick if they actually win." Best quote yet! If Mangini doesn't make a change very, very soon he will loose all the fans (somewhat important), the team (important) and the owner (very importannt to his emplyment status) (can someonetell me how to include the quote in a better way than I have used above? thanks
