The plan was to light a fire under Gholsten. If the fight was scripted, Gholsten would have been in on it but that wasn't what the coaches were going for at all. They wanted to have someone (they picked Turner) to start a fight with Gholsten. The only thing about the fight that was fake was Turner's motivation. Turner started the fight because the coaches asked him too, not because he was pissed at Gholsten. Also, from what the coaches were saying, Turner probably likes to fight anyway.
After seeing the way Mcknight disrespected coaches on hard knocks, now this kid, I wonder if it would be best for Rex to take a less player friendly approach to some of the younger guys next camp. Hope this trend will not continue into the season or with veterans, it appears he has all of the vets respect.
I don't think they would have tried Sutton, he is one serious dude! Henry Ellard maybe but not Sutton.
Hey the coaches have to get results from him. I have no problem if it was scripted, choreographed, or practiced. Their job is to get the most from their players and not to worry about if the sesitive public will be offended. The incident with Jackson, pure and simple this is a case where the vets are saying to the rooks "we may be lighthearted and friendly but that does mean you disrespect your coachs" The whole thing kind of reminds me of a few good men.
anyone who thinks this is bad for the jets public image, is not a true fan. who the "fuck" cares? this is great for the jets as a team, the players are out there having fun playing REAL football, theyre supposed to be pumped and ready to brawl, and for a harmless prank to put a rookie in his place and teach him about the teamwork and knowledge of the coaching staff to get us to a superbowl, honestly who the "fuck" cares?
How is it going to "blow up" ? This isn't pop warner ball or high school or even college. Its the NFL. If he can't handle a gatorade shower from some vets who are trying to teach him some discipline as punishment for acting like a jackass towards Coach Thurman - he can hit the bricks. Rookies don't talk shit to the coaches. I am very glad to see that this yahoo got put in his place for acting like an idiot. Excellent job by the Vets.
