Because Idzik didnt think it was worth the extra money to go from a C player (Patterson), to a B+ type of player (DRC).

I wish we would have signed Brandon Flowers, he was ripe for the picking. He ended up taking a one year deal with San Diego but the Jets could have locked up long term for a cheaper value. (He hit the market so late that most teams had already spent their money, )

I'll bet Patterson loved that Eagles game. He now knows he not getting cut.

I'd say a good indicator for his deal would be something along the lines of the Sione Pouha 3 yr/$15 million dollar contract the Jets signed him to after 2010.

Who cares ever since they took defensive assignments out of Madden. That pissed me right off.

If he continues his current play level I think it will be a little bit north of that, but yeah that's in the ballpark. That would make him count about 10x more against the cap than he does now.

The Jets would probably sign him to a 4 year deal so that they could give him more upfront and spread the cap hit out some. He's 25 years old now so that would take him to 29-30 before the Jets had to make the next decision. This all assuming he's the same rock in the middle that he was last year.

Agreed, just using Pouha as an example cause he played the same position and played virtually the same amount of snaps per season as Harrison played last year. I don't think Harrison is the type of player who could ever break the bank cause he's a situational player, but in his first year of significant playing time, he was a great situational player.

If he continues at the level he performed at last year it would definitely be for a little more and for a little longer cause he's younger as well like you said.

Agreed with Snacks' value. Who knows what gets converted to what but the Pouha deal seems reasonable as long as he continues along the path he's on. Don't think Idzik hasn't thought of this either. Take care of your own players then fill in where necessary. Rollover money comes through in the clutch again!

thanks for this. very helpful. i didn't know most of that...
that said, i also haven't bashed the front office. i am and have been of the opinion that they deserve the benefit of the doubt...at least for the first couple-few years.

Cutting Hill gave us about $2 mil more in cap space next year if we roll over the million that we saved, FYI.

There are so many "columnists" that could benefit from just understanding wtf rollover money is. I know none of them will ever read this, but imagine how much more tolerable their "writing" would be if they knew? And in turn, you wouldn't have the dopes that take any published word as the bible spewing BS on message boards.

They are aware but they have to sell to the masses of people who have no comprehension on how a football team is built or designed. Negative stories are always a positive stories for any journalist.

Great post, Moproblems. A lot of people don't seem to understand that the rollover concept actually adds on the cap rather than just recycling the same money. Great breakdown. Someone outta tweet the link to Cimini.

I wish guys like Cimini and O'Connor would take the time to educate themselves on the topic but let's get real... they don't want to. They would rather take the easy way out, drum up anger and get attention because of it.
