At the very least he did that when he said no to St Louis and yes to the Jets. Nobody of his caliber had ever said that to an NFL team before..then he won a superbowl which everybody said was impossible for an AFL team to ever do..and the wearing of the mink coat on the sidelines and Bachelor's Three..all of that gave football a shot in the arm that was long overdue..all ending in the merger of the two leagues. There had been some talks about a merger before Namath but I'm not sure it would have happened without him and his outspoken personality.
Other then who the jets take My hope is the bills and Miami don’t get a qb in the first round. The pats might get one but it won’t be the top 4. They need to many players to move up. Buff also does but they need a qb this year. Buff might be the worst team in the east after there off season

One thing lacking in these QBs, Darnold excluded, is the magic locks of Namath. Gotta look the part, ha ha.
There were rumors, and owners ( ahem Beef Wellington Mara) who were pressuring Rozelle to reneg on the agreement to the bitter end. They wanted nothing to do with the merger. Mara hated Namath a and the Jets so much he never uttered Namath's name throughout his entire life.
