He's proving right now why maybe he should of been top 10. And yeah there was talk of him being a top 10 pick back then. He was deamed the next Vick. At that time Cam Newton was doing extremely well and everyone thought Jackson could be like that. He was considered a big pick much of his sophomore and junior year. Going into his Junior year most people thought if he played well and learned to throw he could break top 10. He didn't, ravens got him on a steal and built the perfect game plan for him .
No one thought after his Heisman year that Lamar was a top 10 pick. He had to put on weight and be a better QB and he accomplished that his last year at school.

Lamar won the Heisman in 2016; this article is from 2017, his last year in school. This is the year I am referring to where he improved as a QB.
So the first article strengthens my point. 2nd one, no one is out right saying hes a top 10 pick after his Heisman season
Neither out right say he's top 10 but the articles from then are hard to find. A lot people believed he had tha potential before his junior season. Everyone was split on it half believing he wasn't that good only because of injury probability.
thats because he wasn't a top 10 draft prospect, but he did a great job of improving his stock the year after he won the Heisman. I believe some had a 3rd - 4th round grade on him still.
He was rated higher than mayfield and allen and several others after his heisman year. But under them all after his junior year. Didn't improve his stock at all. Baltimore was the only team with that high of a grade obviously.

Again nothing in it says he improved. It just says he's a better pick than Allen and many others. The second is all about how he was a better pick than the other QBs and wouldn't be considered because of his style. And it was made before his junior year. When you find facts to back you let me know until then I honestly don't care for your opinion.
I'm not sure if this thread is just all about the bitter pill that needs to be swallowed because we took Sam instead of Lamar but given with what Sam has worked with I think there's plenty of upside with a new GM given the task to build around him. Looking forward to 2020.
You have to split Jackson into several different boxes at this point in his career. There's the running QB box which is going to last at most 3 or 4 more seasons but might catastrophically end on any play. There's the passing QB box, which includes his ability to make throws outside the pocket, which is outstanding and could conceivably remain at a high level for a decade or more - see Aaron Rodgers for that comparison. Then there's the pocket QB box, which is pretty good at this point and likely to get better assuming that the Raven's line stays healthy and good and that the Ravens do not get cap-crippled at some point like they did with Flacco. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jackson get hurt and lose effectiveness however he's at least as likely to mature into a top 5 QB for a decade or more.

The guy's turning out great so far and good for him and good for him that he had an experienced, wise Super Bowl-winning coach in John Harbaugh to design an offense that fit his skills but still. there was one reason or another why more teams besides the Jets passed on him.
