And who did the Jets have at their OT positions ? Oh yeah Wayne Hunter who was one of the absolute worst tackles in the league period last year, and Dbrickashaw who unquestionably had the worst year of his career. Then you had the mighty Colin Baxter play center in like 3-4 games, then Mangold game back quickly from an injury so he wasnt 100% for a bit. And Slauson/Moore who are two average guards at best even though Moore was coming off a hip injury surgery/missing camp and Slauson was playing through significant injuries. Who did the Ravens have at guard again ? Oh yeah Ben Grubbs one of the best guards in the league and Marshal Yanda who is also one of the best guards in the league AND was All Pro last year. Pro Bowl means dog shit in the context of things. The Ravens OL was flat out superior to the Jets last year
Did I not mention Mangold both missed games, and wasnt 100% for a bit when he came back. Mangold was still a stud, but he wasnt him usual self. And Dbrick had a down year. http://www.profootballfocus.com/blo...f-pass-blocking-efficiency-offensive-tackles/ According to them Dbrick was almost identically efficient as McKinnie. http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/07/14/three-years-of-pass-blocking-efficiency-centers/ Mangold near the same as the Ravens (albeit Mangold missed some action) Which pretty much leaves Oher vs Hunter (im pretty sure everyone on the planet would take Oher) And The Ravens stud guards vs injured Slauson and Moore coming off surgery. I cant imagine anyway that someone would of took the Jets Oline over the Ravens
While i think we will be much better then 30th... hopefull top 12ish... i cant really argue anything he says. we do have serious questions marks on the oline. we dont really lack weapons on offense. at wideout, our only proven legit threat is the guy who cant get along with our starting qb. our 2 qbs are among the most inconsistent and inaccurate in the league. we have no RB proven to carry the load over the corse of the season. on top of it, we are going to a whole new offense all togher(although thats kind of a bonus considering shotty was a big problem) point being, from an unbiased perspective, you cant make an argument that we are among the bottom 5 offenses in the league until proven otherwise
winning and records arent just about offense. sure we went to the AFC championship game. but the first time we were a 9-7 wildcard team that just scraped in and who was carried by a top 5 defense. we also had a better oline and runningback tandem same with the second trip. defense carried us, better oline, and better wideouts with braylon and holmes tandem. our defense carried both of those teams, and both of those squads had better depth, olines, runningbacks, and wideouts.
The Ravens lost one of their starting OTs during TC IIRC and signed McKinney at the last minute. He had to learn an entire playbook in a couple of weeks -- and he was old and out of shape, so again, it's a wash with the Jets' injuries. The Baltimore OL was more productive than the Jets' primarily because of QB play: Flacco made better reads and got rid of the ball quicker, so he took fewer sacks. Flacco had fewer turn overs, both INTs and fumbles, so the Ravens were coming from behind. Flacco was more willing to throw downfield, so the defense had to respect that and back off the LOS, opening up the short passing and the run game. You can make all the excuses you want for Sanchez, but he's NOT been as good a QB as Flacco. Check out Sanchez's three year career vs Flacco's first three years, and for 2 of those years, Sanchez played behind an elite/excellent OL with at least as good a running game as Flacco's had.
Flacco has Ray Rice to carry him. When you can toss the ball to a HB in the backfield for 5-6 easy completions and 45~ yards every single game thats an easy way to boost your #s. If Sanchez/Flacco switched teams, Sanchez would be the consensus better QB. Not to mention Sanchez improves every year, Flacco has been regressing
Ah, ok. So basically Schotty threw those TDs not Mark. Gotcha. The reason his other stats were so much worse was because of the last few games he played while injured. Before that Broncos game he was having a great season.
Look up the facts. Flacco only regressed last season (2011). He was a top ten rated QB in 2010, and he had QBR's in the 80s his first two years. Furthermore, Sanchez had a stout defense and two damn good RBs to carry him in 2009 and 2010 as well. He still didn't put up very good numbers. Sanchez also played behind a much better OL in his first two years than Flacco did. The Jets OL in 2009 and 2010 was elite/near elite.
