Jeter's only responsibility to is help the team win and get a call that benefits his team. it is the umps responsibility to get the call right.

he cheated. big deal. all athletes do and there is nothing wrong with it.

it is the leagues responsibility to put systems in place that either dissuade cheating after the fact, by suspensions or fines, or simply put a system in place to get the calls correct on the field, such as instant replay.

    Jeter did his job.

PTI talked about instant replay last night because of the Jeter situation. I agree, instant replay should be instituted. For those who worry it'll "slow down" the game, it's already slow. It's better to get it right. Institute a challenge system like football. You get one challenge a game. If you win it, you get one additional. Big deal, 10 more minutes. If you don't like slow sports don't watch baseball.

But I don't disagree that Jeter did his job. The only thing is he gets a lot more leeway than Alex Rodriguez would in this same situation.

I just was pointing out that fans don't typically celebrate diving/flopping, that's all.

    He did help his team.

I don't think Jeter would have done something like that 5 years ago, but because he's nearing the end of his career, he figures "Why the hell not?" He's built up respect from the Umps for years, and now it's time to cash in on it.
