The Jets did their due diligence by giving him enough games to evaluate him. Bottomline is that he sucks. We've seen all we need to see.
I agree with the OP completely as far as no point in starting Vick. The parts about Geno needed more time to develop I highly doubt. He's pretty much a bum but when you are 1-7 you look to the future you don't play a 34 year old that likely won't be here next year. It's pointless to play Vick now. And it's just Rex not knowing how to manage a QB situation. Again. They should've played him when the games mattered now it does nothing for this team. Play Simms or Smith only. They should can Rex @ the bye week for that reason only. A professional recognizes the situation the team is in and does the best thing for the long term. Look at Andy Reid his last year in Philly. Foles wasn't the better QB at the time and Vick would've probably won them a few more games down the stretch but he did the right thing for the long term and trotted Foles and numerous young players out there because he was a professional doing right by his organization. And it helped their development. HermEdwards had some shitty years here and did the same. Rex won't though he will trot his vets and loyalists out ther until the end. And it's not just the QB position. Guys like Chris Johnson, Calvin Pace, Jason Babin, Willie Colon, etc. should all be sitting for younger players at this point. Put Allen back at safety because that's better for his and this teams long term. Sit Landry if you have too. If Rex is unwilling to do those things then send him packing and let MM coach this team out because that's what you do when you are 1-7
Unlike Matt Simms. Oh, and Eli was the first overall pick and the product of Archie Manning super sperm.
I don't really care much about who starts the rest of the year, since the season is over. In fact, losing more now is better for us. But as far as Geno, I think we've given him a fair chance now. QBs certainly do struggle early on in a lot of cases, but you still want to see them make some kinda of progress. I'm not looking for Geno to play at en elite level or anything, but he had to show that he's getting better at reading the defense, responding to the blitzes, checking down his receivers instead of locking in on the first guy. He hasn't really shown improvement in any of these areas in 1.5 years. Even the games when he plays relatively well, like the Patriots game, it seems like it's not because he does those things, but because we are running well, the O-Line is giving him time, and his first target is getting open. But as soon as there is any pressure, he gets completely rattled and starts doing really bad stuff.
yep - this is a big part of why first round picks stick in a team the longest - people don't want to give up on them and throw that investment away - sometimes it pans out but more often than not it doesn't.
We said the same thing about Mark Sanchez,we gave him 5 years to shit the bed.We are not giving Geno 5 years ,he.just doesn't have it and can't handle the pressure of NY
