John Stewart had a long career as a songwriter. What's odd is that "Gold" was one of his lesser efforts, but it became his big hit. These days, when you mention him, everyone thinks you're talking about Jon Stewart. It's a little tough, however, to call John Stewart a one-hit wonder because: (1) He wrote "Daydream Believer," which was a big hit for the Monkees and has been recorded by a lot of other people, too; and (2) He had some hits when he was a member of the Kingston Trio from 1961-67 (a group largely forgotten today, but it had a lot of hit singles and gold albums in the late '50s and early '60s).
EDIT: Song already posted early on, but re-posted due to the cheesiness of the video. That girl looks so damn familiar. For a nanosecond I went is that the kid from The Love Boat? It isn't; but facial recognition is my thing and I know her from somewhere. Probably some made for TV movie.
Two members of the Starland Vocal Band -- Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert -- co-wrote "Take Me Home, Country Roads" with John Denver. That song was a mega-hit for Denver and is still a very popular, especially in West Virginia.
^Oh, no, the dreaded Mr. Bojangles! Hot damn did I ever hate that song. Just so people know this thread is not about like or dislike, but that song is brutal and makes me want to plunge an ice-pick into my right temple.
