They still have Kiwi after they get rid of Osi and from what I hear they are pretty high on Tollefson to take over the #3 spot in the rotation.
I guess you can say that MLB is a bigger need then DE, you're right. I just really liked the value of getting Morgan at 15.
Yeah, I think in this case we'd trade down or trade up. We kind of ended up in the area where the talent kind of drops per price you're paying. I'd be much happier with two second rounders and one third or fourth than the players we got in this draft. Although the way the cards fell, you picked pretty well. Personally though I would have reached for Linval Joseph, DE/NT in the first and then Koa Misi, OLB in the second. And seeing the Patriots pick those players makes me feel sick.
The Jets don't need a receiver and desperately need youth on both lines as well as CB depth, safety help and a pass rusher. If Demaryius Thomas falls to the Jets at 29 and the Jets don't take him, He's that good.
Hugely massively bigger need. They probably need two starting LBs, or one starter and hope that a young guy can step up. They still have Kiwi, Osi, and Tuck out at end and Toleffson is a good player as well.
Ok, I just looked it over again and I really don't agree with the Giants passing on McClain too, I'm not sure what I was thinking when I did that....but I edited a few picks with the Giants picking him with their dire need for a LB. Any more comments?
Alright, that one McClain pick just forced me to change about 5 picks in Round 1 and another 5 in Round 2, I like how it turned out.
I just can't see us spending a 1st round pick on a WR after getting Holmes. Demaryius Thomas is a hell of a talent but would you really be that pissed if we passed on him?
I would have probably went with Linval Joseph if Griffen weren't available..even then I had a tough time deciding.
624, What is your reasoning drafting Griffen? IMO, Griffen isn't a 3-4 OLB and is much better suited for a 4-3 defensive team. Griffen is an incredible athletic player, limited production, and never played in coverage.
I just really like his athleticism and potential as a pass rusher. I feel that we desperately need an elite pass rusher to put this defense to the next level, and Griffen has the potential to do that. I know that Gholston had the "potential" too but after seeing the recent success of USC linebackers I really feel like he's been coached well and Rex and Petine can further his development to fit their system.
That's not true, WW. Griffen actually played the same role that Clay Matthews played at USC. He spent a lot of time standing up...he definitely took more snaps with his hand in the ground, but he has some experience covering. He's not a good coverage linebacker by any means, but he has the athleticism to become a decent player.
MrE who would you have picked for the Jets if the draft panned out the way it did in this mock? ..and do you have any other comments on the rest of the mock? Just like WW85, GH, and Jabba I really value your opinion on this stuff....and I'm still pretty new with it and would love more feedback.
If you want Griffen to play OLB for the Jets he's going to need to be able to do more than just rush the QB. Griffen wasn't a LB at USC....he played with his hand down. Awesome player, not the best choice for the Jet's system.
I just looked over your mocks again. It'd be a toss up between three or four players: Everson Griffen, Jason Pierre-Paul, Rodger Saffold, and Linval Joseph.
Well I disagree.....every USC game I've seen is with Griffen with his hand down or playing DE standing, I've never seen him in coverage. Griffen is a much better fit as a DE for a 4-3...I'm sure you would agree.
I do agree that he's a great fit in the 4-3, but I still think he's athletic enough to play 3-4 OLB. There's a video floating around here some where that shows Griffen playing a lot of coverage - he looks pretty bad, but he's still got experience. That's proof right there that he's spent time at linebacker. I know for a fact that Griffen spent the majority of his time at SC with Ken Norton Jr., who was probably the best linebacker coach in the country.
