I'm aware of where he's from. He became a Lakers fan and a Manchester United fan as well. You tell me.
so you like the versatility of the Russos and penas of the world but you also like Timz who cant even find his way to the outfield and can only hit lefties. Cannot even manage to look like a major league player against righties. I like th eRussos and Penas myself. But we dont need 5 of them. I dont really care about the problems that other teams have. You see, MLB be damned or not, th eYankees can excercise a little gluttony and remedy problems on their team that the KC Royals of the league cannot. Make no mistake about it guys, we WILL be adding a veteran bat. GUARANTEED!
But that's my point. Once Thames is back you have power off the bench, and versatility in two of Pena/Russo/Huffman/whomever, and a solid backup catcher in Cervelli. That seems like a pretty good bench to me. You're missing my point regarding what other teams need, and it's not about financial constraints. It's about talent on the roster. If the Yanks are just looking for bench and middle relief help, they're already in very, very good shape. You said the Yanks "cannot go into the playoffs" with those guys and that they need a reliever and a bat off the bench. Baseball games are played against other teams, obviously. Those other teams are very likely in worse shape than the Yanks, roster-wise... so if the goal is to win the World Series, the Yanks already have an advantage if all they're worried about is middle relief and the bench. So all I'm saying is that those current bench guys aren't bad to have, and even if your nightmare comes true and the Yanks go into the playoffs without "fixing" those spots, they're still in very good shape. I wouldn't take that bet, because every GM is going to try to improve his team, if possible. But it ain't the end of the world if no move is made.
I didnt mean for it to sound like its the end of the world if you dont add a bat. But I still guarantee we will. And although I understand what you're saying about ht eyankees just needing to be better than whomever theyre playing, you might as well take the opportunity to improve your team since m oney isnt an "issue"
Honestly, what I'd love to see the Yankees do is finally go after David DeJesus. KC is shopping him right now. Obviously, that probably would mean Gardner to the bench, but I always liked DeJesus and he's a Yankee fan, so I always wanted him here. I really doubt we pick up a vet bat at any point though. Not unless one comes really cheap. There's only so much talent in the minors to give up at this point, and an extra quality bat off the bench isn't really a "need." An arm in the pen is, though. I wish Melancon would get his act together already. One day he's great, the next he's terrible. Albaladejo is having a very good year in SWB though, and I can't help but wonder why he has yet to get a call. Kei Igawa actually even had a pretty decent night last night. There's a chance Dustin Moseley get's called up today though. He was slated to start last night, but Igawa was plugged in last minute for him, and it wasn't due to injury. Weird though, as he hasn't been great (4-4, 4.21 ERA.) Interesting note: that shitbag Randy Winn is hitting .295 with an OPS 130 points higher on the Cards than he had here. And speaking of bench players, has anyone seen what Hinske is doing this year? In 62 games he's hitting .302, with an OPS of .885. Why'd we let him go again?
Of course. Every team should try to improve. All I was saying is that - if all the Yanks have to worry about it middle relief and their bench - they're in pretty good shape. Stressing about them needing a bat or whatever (especially considering that they're in first place) is nitpicking a bit. Because you don't expect 32-year-old bench players to all of a sudden start hitting more than 100 points above their career OPS?
Obviously, but he was pretty good off the bench for us last year, and rather than bring in Thames or Winn, we could have just kept what we had with Hairston and Hinske. Especially given Hinske had pretty good numbers with us last year in his limited time (.226, .828 OPS.) He was a good bench option, and surely better than Winn. Cashman just loves to bring in the next Betemit though. It happens every year. I just think that if you're going to insist on going outside your farm to pick up role-players, you should hold onto the ones who give you decent or better ROI. Anyway, it doesn't matter right now. I prefer having Russo and Huffman for now. While I like Pena in the field, he makes me cry a little bit when he comes to bat. Those three are more than enough coming off the bench for now I think. I just want to get the pen in shape. Robertson looks like he's coming back around. Joba is a ticking time bomb, but hopefully Eiland can get him on track for the rest of the year. Mo is Mo. After that, there's no one I currently have any confidence in when they hit the mound. I'd like to say Logan, but he's another time bomb. Does anyone have any clue why Albaladejo just can't seem to get the call? Following his work in SWB, I can't see a reason. Did he have a disagreement with someone on the pro club?
