Figured I would make a thread where we can discuss certain players we like in the later rounds. I'll get it started: Alex Hoffman-Ellis 6'1" 233 lbs LB Washington St. Did anyone see this kid's pro day numbers? 4.54 40yd. 36 reps. He was a late bloomer in HS -- legal trouble and academics. Only played 1 year in HS and then 1 year at JUCO. By all accounts he has matured and been a model citizen and leader at WSU. The kid can flat out ball. Would contribute immediately on ST. Maybe a situational pass rusher and could be a potential replacement for Scott.
Ok I'll bite... Brandon Hardin, FS, Oregon State 6'3" 216lbs ran a 4.4 and 4.36 at his pro day a few days ago while putting up 24 reps of 225. He missed his Sr season with a pretty good shoulder injury in practice but it sounds as if he has recovered. Before the injury he was projected as early as the 3rd round but now he is prolly between 5-7.
Sean Richardson ---- SS ---- Vanderbilt -----6-2 -- 216 3 year starter at Vandy in the quality SEC. Solid tackling machine - runs up to do it at the LOS. 4.47 40 and 38 inch vertical at the combine.
how about Danny Trevathan of Kentucky as an OLB? He's a bit undersized, but the guy is a tackling machine. Actually, I wonder if he might be a good candidate to convert to SS in the long-run at his size? http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=84691&draftyear=2012&genpos=OLB
The guy I really love is Miles Burriss. He's one of the few players in this draft that has elite pass rusher measurables across the board, and he has consistent production over two years. He seems like he wants it, and although he's undersized, he seems to have the requisite athleticism to be successful. -X-
I think we will be able to pick up a sleeper out of Stanford named Andrew Luck. He is a below the radar stud at quarterback that nobody is talking about. He is well worth a 5th round pick.
Wow I didn't notice S Rich made it in this thread yet. Knowing the team very well honestly he's not that good-- very inconsistent and not ready to make an immediate impact. He played SS in college but not sure he'd fit there in the NFL. Honestly, considering that he's played with a legit CB's at Vandy (Hayward, Lewis) he'll have no problem adjusting to a Revis-Cro secondary. EDIT: Okay, what the hell, Richardson apparently tied the most bench reps out of any Safety in the draft. He may be a legit late bloomer after all... EDIT 2: Apparently he had a "nice long conversation" with Lovie Smith after his workouts at Vandy's pro day.
RB Tauren Poole Tennessee 5-10 205 Had a great 2010 season, but got hurt in the beginning of 2011 and played hurt most of the year. Plus the QB situation was unsettled, his O-line sucked and defenes keyed on him.
TE Josh Chichester, Louisville Height/Weight: 6'6, 235 lbs Measurables: 4.63 40, 1.61 10, 14 bench reps of 225 lbs, 37" vert, 10'05" broad jump, 4.41 short shuttle, 6.93 3 cone drill. Was used only as a red zone weapon at Louisville, but has tremendous athletic upside. Also was 2nd on the depth chart at Louisville, didn't see a ton of PT. Played in all 12 games a junior, scoring a team leading 5 touchdowns. Severely under-utilized as a senior, scoring only 2 TDs. Went to Louisville as a WR, moved to "receiving TE". Is comfortable lining up on the line and outside as a WR, similar to Jermichael Finley. The awards people were so confident in his athletic abilities and upside that they named him to the preseason watch list for best TE in the country but the coaches didn't put him in a position to come close to winning that. For comparison's sake of athletic ability, here are Jimmy Graham's measurables coming out of Miami at 6'6, 260: Graham: 4.53 40, 1.53 10, 15 bench reps of 225 lbs, 38.5" vert, 10'00" broad jump, 4.45 short shuttle, 6.90 3 cone drill. Chichester: 4.63 40, 1.61 10, 14 bench reps of 225 lbs, 37" vert, 10'05" broad jump, 4.41 short shuttle, 6.93 3 cone drill So basically Chichester is a tenth of a step slower in a straight line and every bit as explosive in movements and jumping ability. For a player that is 25 lbs lighter, he only had 1 less bench rep so he is very strong for his size and can put another 10 lbs on his frame (over the course of a year) without losing any athletic ability. He'd come into the NFL and immediately be a top red zone target for his team, much like Jimmy Graham as a rookie. After bulking up to 6'6, 245-250 lbs through his rookie season and offseason he could take over as a full time tight end in his sophomore season (also like Graham). 6'6 with a 37" vert and WR hands is a recipe for success in the red zone and is something we are sorely lacking.
