davis best position is guard. he is a boaderline pro bowler at guard. tackle position he seems to struggle .. but i will still like to add him to this team.

  2. He is indeed a pro bowler at guard, but I think he COULD be successful as an RT if he got some better coaching outside of Zona.

W/ that said, he doesnt really fit our scheme, as Mangini prefers medium sized OL w/ athleticism, endurance and strength. Davis def. has the strength, but sorely lacks the athleticism and endurance.

For some reason I believe that he played MLB and excelled at Michigan- can anybody confirm?

Here is what I look at:

    1) Yes, I agree here a big ass NT, if we can move DRob to strong side. This line is scary.

    2) CB

    3) TE, I hate to say, we don't get enough production from this position

    4) LB

    5) FB

I like Hobson a lot, why replace him. He is pretty good and has had a good season.

The Jets need to work on the running game big time and it starts up front with RT. A big guard to put next to Brick would help too seeing as Kendall isn't getting any younger or better and Brick gets blown off the LOS on run plays.

Justin Blaylock and Michael Bush would be my ideal scenario with our first two picks.

are you kidding me!!!!???? have you seen ANY game that he has played? the guy is a solid run blocker. you know he happens to block for ray rice right? its pretty obvious that you have never watched a rutgers football game. the guy has been THAT good for 3 years. block, run, catch, pick up the blitz...hes a ver, very VERY good FB. how many FB in college have heisman hype?

we dont need lorenzo neal, we need a guy who can block with good hands. leonard will only make the team better with everything he brings to the table.

i want mangini here for a long time, but it isnt imperitive to give him a longer contract this year. after year 2, if the jets improve more, you give him more money and a longer contract. it has nothing to do with loyalty. sorry, but mangini doesnt exactly seem like a guy who would pull a herm.

I think we need a corner. Dyson is great and I like Barret but We could definately use depth there because I don't want to depend on Miller in coverage or guys like Hank Poteat and Drew Coleman.

You are absolutely right about special teams with Westoff, Nug and Graham we will be good in that area for a long time. I think that was another of Herms downfalls negelecting special teams. Mangini seems to be providing much better personnel in that area.

you realize the bulk of the guys, and the core players on ST were here last year right? those guys were in place under herm. millers gotten better with a year under his belt, and the same for nugent. they were provided by herm and bradway...

Re-doing Mangini's contract is a must. If nothing else it shows a long term commitment to the plan he and Tannenbaum are implementing which will only further attract potential free agents.

All year we've been saying we need to get a nose tackle but drafting a big DE would give the line alot of depth. Draft a guy like Adam Carriker, and then you have Ellis, Robertson, Moore and Pouha coming back (don't forget he has nose tackle talent) and that's a solid group of guys. Kimo will probably be back but as veteran depth and only getting 5-10 snaps a game I think it'll be beneficial.

We should make a big run at Asante Samuel. Knows the system, has the size and would complete our secondary to a point where it might be one of the better in the league.

  12. Blalock is a great prospect, but no guard is worth a 1st round pick. Chances are he maybe available in the early 2nd round depending on if someone actually thinks he can play RT(which I believe he does not have the height or wingspn to play).

If we do what you suggest and sign Lance Briggs wouldn't it be smarter to move him to the inside and put Barton back on the outside where he formerly played. With Briggs and Vilma in the middle that would be a great tandem in this league.

Briggs doesn't really have the size to play inside next to another smallish linebacker. You could replace Vilma with him but it would be hard to move him in next to Vilma.

And no, I'm not suggesting replacing Vilma, just making the point that Vilma and Briggs are both smallish.

ok, that makes sense.. i didn't really know how big Briggs was.. knowing that I think I would rather keep Hobson just because I believe he will continue his development and we can spend the money that would go to Briggs on an o-lineman or corner

I agree, Hobson should stay, replace Barton if any of them.

I would not mind drafting a RT on the first day also, let these guys grow together, Ferg..Mangol...RT TBA..would truly solidify our O-Line for many many years, we need a big Run blocking RT like we had in McKenzie.

What about a RB? Also should be a first day pick, and I may go DE instead of NT the way D-Rob has stepped up, he has been solid and will get better as he goes, he is still young.

Briggs is F-A-S-T. And he hits like a truck.

There's no way Hobson is even in the same ballpark with him as a defender. With Briggs you'd have a huge positive making things happen, with Hobson you have a space-filler basically.

    1. Disagree - DRob has played very well at NT for the second half the the season. With a full year under his belt, he will only improve at the NT position, which is very difficult to learn.

    2. Agree

    3. Semi-agree - I would like to see him have a second season which shows even more improvement before locking him up for 10-15 years, but so far I LOVE what I'm seeing with him. If the price is right, lock him up.

    4. Disagree - I'd rather draft either LaMarr Woodley or Anthony Spencer for the OLB position opposite Bryan Thomas

    5. Agree - Westoff is amazing. Period.

Thomas is a better fit for a 3-4 than Briggs, since Thomas plays in one already, but I'm very happy with our LB corps the way it is, especially with the way Hobson and Thomas have played this year. I do, however, think we need a passrusher badly, so if Thomas/Briggs is the best available we should probably go for it with the cap room we're going to have.

I agree with everything except the Hobson part. I think he has been playing very well as of late. It's as if he improves on a weekly basis. He is young and seemingly tailor made for this defense.

Some other things I would consider which are probably more obvious to everyone:

1.) Shore up the other side of the OL and get better guard play. Kendall has been fine but he is not getting younger. I think if we bring a good guard or two in via draft or free agency we will be fine. We do have to improve upon the run blocking, that is an imperative

2.) Running back- Get a feature back. We need a better running game to give Pennington more options. I think #1 goes along way to # 2 but still........

3.) We need better DL play. I am not a smart enough to say whether that fix is already on the roster or we have to go out and draft it but it does need improvement.

4.) We need a second corner to go opposite Dyson.

Anyway I think if we shore up the lines, we could possibly become an elite team. I am a proponent of the strong O-line, D-line "winning in the trenches" theory. I also think that the 'sack" our FO showed in drafting 2 for the OL and the vast improvement of the OL went a long way to Penningtons health and this season which is beyond expectations.
