Yeah guys DUH! We already have the QB for now and the future...JAY FIEDLER! SB XLI here we come! MVP= Jay Fiedler
I'd rather have Cutler. He has the tools to become a big time passing QB in the NFL. I don't think Young has the ability. Cutler reminds me of a poor man's Elway, Young is a little better than Vick.
People REALLY need to stop comparing Young to Vick, Young is vastly superior to Vick at this point of their career.
Not really. Young is a little better from the pocket, but he'll never be the athlete that Vick is in the NFL. Young doesn't have his speed, or moves. Overall, I think Young will be better than Vick, because he has more brains in the pocket, but neither will ever be good or great in that role.
Dude, what is your problem with me? Constantly, jeez, settle down. I said no QB in round 1 because we have bigger issues to fill. Like the RB position.
If Vince Young is still on the board for the JETS there should be no hesitation on their part. Just thinking of picking Jay Cutler as a possibility for the JETS is ridiculous.
Bigger issues? We are actually better off at RB then we are at QB...so I don't understand your logic here. At lease at RB we have young legs in Cedric Houston and a Vet at RB in Curtis Martin. We don't have anything like that at QB...
Young CMP ATT YDS CMP% TD INT RUSHES YARDS TD 212 325 3,036 65.2 26 10 155 1050 12 Vick 90 152 1,840 59.2 12 5 108 585 8 This is their best years in college, not only has Young shown to be a lot more durable, more accurate, double the pass attempts and because of his size was also a better runner, the only think that Vick has over Young is arm strength, but other than that the Vick comparison is rediculous. Compare him to McNabb if you want, McNabb rushed the same number of times as Young, and their numbers are similar.
I'm not sure if I really agree with that entirely. Young is really big, and extremely difficult to take down. How many times have we seen a guy like Ben or McNabb escape because defenders just can't bring him down? I think that helps Young. I don't want him to think run first anyway, so I don't care that he may not be as fast or have the moves that Vick does. I just want some elusiveness, and the ability to take the ball in from like 3 years out for a TD. Also, Young's release is extremely fast, and there are whispers that fixing his mechanics would be easy and result in an even QUICKER release. So basically we have a guy that's hard to bring down, and gets the ball out quickly. He's going to be a huge weapon for us I think. Usually you only have 1 of the 2 (Vick or Marino) but now we have a guy with both. His passing skills are vastly underrated imo, I think Young will be a very good passer in this league. Maybe not a top 5 passer, but it'd be hard for me not to think he can get to the top 10 passing wise, and maybe #2 running behind Vick. Not a bad combination imo. I can see Young being a top passer too though in 3 years or so. It's a gamble, but it could be a huge payoff for us. Let's say we do pass on Young, and he goes to another team and starts killing us, I know I couldn't live with that. Ideally, if Young is there, I want to take him and see what happens, if not, I think we'll get Cutler and I'm perfectly okay with him as well. Just as long as we don't get Leinart, I'm confident.
I said he is better than Vick. But it will take a lot of coaching for him to even be a "good" passing QB in the NFL. Vick is a way below average passing QB, my point was that Young is a better passer than Vick. Young is big and strong, but his speed and elusiveness are built to dominate college. He won't dominate the NFL in that area, like Vick can. You can compare him to McNabb, but I think McNabb had more talent that he needed to harness as a passing QB. Young doesn't have that upside. Anyway, McNabb is, at best, a "good" passing QB.
Olson is a guy I've liked also. If we can't get Young with our number one, I think we could easily get Olson in the fourth round and he is going to be a steal. He had great games against high quality opponents, USC being one of them. I just feel that with the O-line problems we are having Young would be one of the few rookie QB's that would stand half a chance behind the line.
I think we have to take Vince if he is there... There is NOTHING similar about Vick and Vince young except for their skin color... Young is a BIG QB, Vick is barely 6 feet... Vick has horrid accuracy and throw on the run, often making big mistakes... VY does have a strange throwing motion, but he does have a STRONG arm, and a good coach should be able to fix his motion a bit...I'd love to see Vinny come on as a special advisor and work with him... The ability to run as an OPTION is great, but there is nothing that says he be running as much in the NFL as he did in college... I know one thing's for sure tho... 3rd and inches, I'd like a 6'5" athlete QB sneaking it every time rather than seeing Curt stopped in the backfield...
What you said can be said about every QB in the draft which is why most don't do anything in their first year, and as for speed I wouldn't be surprised if he ran a 4.4 40 time, which isn't that much slower than Vick, he is more durable than most, and if they put him in an offense that fits his ability than he can dominate with his legs as well if not better than Vick because he is bigger, and stronger than Vick. But then again Young isn't nearly as dependent on his legs as Vick, so he won't need to. As for his delivery it will need work, but players with awkward deliveries has succeeded in the NFL, and with his size and his quick release it won't even matter as much.
I really dont want to take QB at #4, but if we did, then Id rather take Young. I dont really like either prospect too much, but what I do know is that under no conditions would I take Cutler at 4
i believe vince and the texas longhorns were #1 in passing completions, td's, ratings and pretty much every offensive stat last season. i hope we can add a playmaker on the team so i'd take vince over cutler and brick anyday.
