If this all comes true it will be the best offseasons in a while for the other AFCE teams. Gosh, how is it possible the Jets fuck up a situation so bad that they are forced to trade one of the best players in the league? Unbelievable.
If Revis isn't willing to take less money, then he HAS to go. This is a team sport and it makes no sense to pay a cornerback star QB money and expect to build a team that can win it all. If Revis wants the money that is his choice, but he shouldn't expect to be competing for a SB year in and year out if he is content to have his salary chew up so much cap space.
I don't see IND...but DET maybe. It just depends on what they want to do round 1. If they are going to focus on re-upping a DE and pass rush I don't see them doing it. If they are going to go CB round 1 it's very much on the table.
i agree with IND being bs. I could see him going to DET. they would have to do some work with restructuring deals tho. they have big money in stafford and megatron that would have to be moved bc of the cap
I could see the Lions getting involved after the bidding has started with the 36 and future year picks in the mix. There's no team in the NFL willing to spend more for a superstar than the Lions and they have Stafford, Johnson and Suh all locked up until 2015. Detroit is where a Herschel Walker-lite type deal would probably originate.
That's why Mike T is out of a job. I'd love nothing more than to make Revis a Jet for life... but being realistic (as a big time homer fan), this is the first season in a looooooong time where I was thinking to myself that the Jets are the worst team in the AFCE... especially after losing Revis. What the Jets NEED to do is build a competitive NFL offense. It would be a mistake to get rid of Revis and then focus on replacing him. He can't be replaced. He won't be replaced. The Jets need to get chips for Revis, and use those chips to have an offense materialize out of thin air.
From everything I've heard, the Bucs aren't going to be serious players in the Revis market. They have been pretty tight-lipped, especially since Schiano got there, so who really knows?
Revis is our best player, no doubt. I would love to see us keep him, dump holmes at the end of the season and give Revis whatever Holmes was suppose to get. The fact is we are deep in the secondary with Revis, Cro & Wilson. I would be more apt to trade Cro, but Cro is really good too. We need to get Landry back. We need some talent on offense. Revis, situation is the value he is worth to the Jets now by trading him now or the headaches he could cause next season demanding inflated contract. For Jets fans it sucks to let a possible future hall of fame player go, but at least Revis will give us one last gift; or maybe 2-3 more
I know you are a hater so sometimes it's hard to see the trees through the forest. Let me help you. #1. Revis is greedy. Not greedy like all professional athletes, but greedy like Gordon fucking Gekko. The guy wants QB money but plays CB. The Jets already have another high quality CB under contract making good money. #2 The Jets made some bad deals when they were "going for it". Essentially, Mike T. restructured deals for the present (specifically 2010 & 2011) by mortgaging the future. A lot of teams do this. What killed the Jets were the 2 deals in particular -- Holmes and Sanchez. Sanchez get paid like a top ten QB. If he was playing like a top ten QB, we would be having a completely conversation. #3 Revis is greedy. Oh, I mentioned that already. Good. Let me scream it from the god damn mountain tops then. REVIS IS GREEDY. Dude has held out twice already in 5 seasons. You're an informed football fan, right? So you know that his uncle and closest adviser is Sean Gilbert -- the guy who decided to sit out a year over a difference of of like 6 million dollars over 5 years. #4 Since the Jets have a new GM and need to rebuild their roster, getting high valued draft picks is the right direction for 2013. It sucks as a fan, but so is life as a Jets fan.
It may seem pretty bad for the Jets right now, but the biggest piece of determining who's good and who sucks still hasn't been decided yet: the QBs. Which ever team between the Bills, Jets and Dolphins has the best QB, that will ultimately decide who slots in where in the standings next year despite what the rest of the roster looks like. We'll have to see.
then you aren't trading him. the jets wouldnt be able to get 2 firsts until after this season at which point they cant trade him anyway.
Howard Eskin @howardeskin I'm told #eagles will release CB Nnamdi Asomugha 2day after 2 yrs w team. He was to make 15 million this season. He does get 4 mill #fox29 Retweeted by Alex Marvez
You think we're getting that much for him? That's overvaluing right there... A team has to be really, really desperate for them to give up that much.
Revis has been under contract to the Jets for 7 seasons including 2013. He wants to be the most highly paid defensive player in the NFL. It's not unusual for a team to decide to move on when a player gets older, begins having injury issues and is becoming very expensive. It's happening a bit earlier with Revis than it has with many other stars in similar situations but that's primarily because Revis has been so hard to deal with on contract issues. If the Jets thought they could lock Revis up to a contract that would work they most likely would do that. They just don't believe they can do that and the reason they don't believe that is that they have a lot of experience working with him and his agents trying to get things done. One of the possible outcomes here is that Revis gets to see what his market will look like in free agency after 2013 and decides to give the Jets a home team discount with a lot of guarantees. It's not quite the same thing, since Revis for draft picks is worth less than Revis without, but it's close enough that he may see that the pie-in-the-sky deal is just not out there because Al Davis is dead. It's also possible that one of the teams in the bidding will decide to give him $14M a year. I think that's the break-point where he jumps at it and a deal gets done.
