None of this would be happening if the first two holdouts hadn't occurred. Revis is great but you need a team to win in the NFL, not just a great player who is always looking out for #1 above all else.

I think it's inevitable at this point, Revis is gonna be gone. If we can get that 31 and 34th from the 9ers I would take it and run.

Don't get me wrong, part of me would love to have Revis, Cro and a passrush on D cockslapping NFL offenses weekly. But when you see the grocery list of good reasons to move him you just gotta go with your head over your heart. Revis is a fuckin wicked player but no CB should get $16m per and Cro was amazing last year, almost on his level.

    Insert Hobbes meme:

"Argues that Revis is worthless for 6 million dollars,

Still thinks Sanchez is worth 6 million, all he needs is an offensive coordinator..."

I'm just messin with you. As much as I would hate to lose Revis, I can see the pass D doing fine with a consistently good CB on the other side of Cromartie and Landry. Plus the team can benefit with the draft.

i would love to see this. 2 1st's in next years draft gives us the ammo to go after the qb's or clowney depending on what we do this year.

if they give us their 31 and 33rd overall pick, it's a done deal.

Maybe conditional on Revis signing with the 49ers long term? That deal would be pretty good for the Jets.

I kind of think so too. The Jets are in damage control mode with Revis right now and two good picks is pretty good damage control when you are rebuilding.

I could see the Jets getting a QB on either of those picks if the right opportunity was there and a RB or WR on the other one.

    From rotoworld:

SI's Jim Trotter "(doesn't) see" the 49ers making a run at Jets CB Darrelle Revis.
It's just an opinion, but Trotter follows the 49ers closely. According to Trotter, the 49ers don't believe in renting "big money" players, and are unlikely to give Revis "huge money" on a long-term deal. If that's the case, Revis will likely steer his services elsewhere unless the 49ers are willing to pay the Jets full price for a one-year rental.

When you've been in the final 4 two years running and not gotten a ring it puts a lot of pressure on the team to get over the top. You can make a very strong argument that the best move for the 49ers is just to keep plugging away like they have and eventually get over the top that way. You can also make a pretty good argument that this time next year the Seahawks will be the best team in the division and the 49ers best window of opportunity will have passed.

I think it's an interesting decision for them at this point.

    1. He can hold #1 CB spot all right.
    2. A bit expensive, but #1 CB that can shut down the occasional stud WRs do cost 10M.
    3. He is not the asshole that Mevi$ is when it comes to holding out and crowing for more money.

So you want to trade THAT away for the total headache that is Revis?

    ----------------------------------------------------

They can throw away a lot here - 31, 33 and another in 3/4 range would do the job in my book. (31 is kind of low for Revis after all.)

Add next 6 2nd rounders and you've got a deal.

This is exactly what they need to do. I'd trade the 33 pick back to KC and hope they suck again. Pick 33 could easily turn into top 10 next year.

You cant always have your cake and eat it too. If the 49ers are willing to give us the 31st and 34th pick, Idzik should jump all over that.

Im also not sure if you are familiar with this draft, but the talent from pick 8 or so to about 30 is VERY similar. The strength of this draft isnt in the top 16 picks, its in the depth.

This trade would be great for both sides. The 49ers essentially trade their first and Alex Smith for Revis. They save 8.5 million from the Smith trade and should have the cap space to sign Revis. It makes them a consensus top team in the NFL and makes their already elite defense even better. For the Jets, its gives them a ton of flexibility in the draft with 5 picks in the first 3 rounds. It helps speed up the rebuild and could make a huge difference for the Jets.

Im 99% sure that if he were to be traded, it would be with a new longterm contract with the new team... A one year rental just doesnt make sense
