Yeah, it could turn out to be the worst all-time. The first two bad divisions that came to mind for me are the 1985 AFC Central and the 1978 NFC Central. So I looked up both and both were indeed bad. 1985 AFC Central Browns 8-8 Bengals 7-9 Steelers 7-9 Oilers 5-11 1978 NFC Central Vikings 8-7-1 Packers 8-7-1 Lions 7-9 Bears 7-9 Buccaneers 5-11 There was not a great team in either of those divisions. However, there wasn't a .250 or worse team, either. Those 5-11 teams had winning percentages of .313 which is bad, but not horrifically bad. In looking at some other divisions, the 1983 NFC Central is just as bad as the 1978 one. 1983 Lions 9-7 Packers 8-8 Bears 8-8 Vikings 8-8 Buccaneers 2-14 From 1977 through 1983 only two NFC Central teams won double digit games in a regular season. The 1979 Bucs won 10 games and the 1979 Bears won 10 games. The 1936 Eastern Division might be the "winner" here. Redskins 7-5 Pirates 6-6 Giants 5-6-1 Dodgers 3-8-1 Eagles 1-11 note: the Pirates are now known as the Steelers
49ers fans aren't as fed up with Singletary as they are licking their chops at the thought of Harbaugh/Luck coming to the 49ers. It's a good mix of not cutting it right away, and having someone who might be ready to step in that they covet.
You're right. Singletary was a great player, but great players usually don't make good Coaches. Somebody should tell Singletary that there is more to Coaching in the NFL than big talk.
IIRC they were offered Philip Rivers and a 3rd RND pick by SD for the #1 pick that they used to select Alex Smith (after everyone had had them taking Aaron Rodgers for the 3 months leading up to the draft). Not a great period in niners history.
Well, he could have gotten Vick, but like many teams, they were cowards. This is what happens when you have no balls
Singletary only shoulders some of the blame. This has been a terrible organization for years before Singletary. They have no general manager. They draft, on the whole, pretty terribly. They took soft-armed spread offense pro workout indoors Alex Smith over Cal QB and currently dominant WCO QB Aaron Rodgers. Aside from Frank Gore, Willis, and Davis, they've not drafted any real difference makers, and they embarrassed themselves with the Crabtree situation. Jimmy Raye is a terrible offensive coordinator. If you're going to be an elite team, you can't count on Jimmy Raye to be making in game adjustments against top defensive squads. -X-
What's the deal w/ him wearing that huge cross on his neck? I know that goes against the dress code policy
I'd be careful about writing the Cowboys off just yet. They're 1-2. You've never seen a 1-2 team have a good season? I have.
KC is a really tough place to play and a horror in years when the Chiefs are good. They outplayed the Saints but coughed up the game. None of the teams they lost to are bad teams. Two road games and your only home game is against the Saints. 49ers shouldn't panic yet. Edit Did you see their center snap the ball over Alex Smith's head? That sure wasn't Singletary's fault. Their starting center was injured.
All the reports I read say Singletary is as bad at X's and O's as Hermy. Lol if that was possible..........
