I see I have company in my views, but I was the first to vote Gase and Darnold. As the definition of insanity goes: doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result each time, this organization can't keep recycling GM's, coaches and QB's every 2-3 years and expect to create a winning team. What separates the winners and losers in this league is simple, it's talent. Yes, talent at the QB position but you have to have it at other key positions too. To paraphrase the Cowardly Lion, what have the other teams in the league got that the Jets don't got? Talent! Coaching is important but without talent, coaching alone won't do it. I believe Darnold is talented enough to win in this league, but he needs help. As for Gase, although he was a big question mark (and still is) it's not entirely fair to judge him as the coach of a team so devoid of talent. Would I have preferred a different coach two years ago? Yes, but Gase is here and has the job and I don't believe any other coach would get a better result with this team. The Jets now need to concentrate on getting talent on this team. (Are you listening, JD?) After that, we can better judge the quality of the coaching.
I still cant tell how good Darnold can be. I also have no idea how good Lawrence can be. But drafting Lawrence resets the salary clock and is also a good incentive to lure a decent coach to this disaster ... so as much as I still believe Sam can have a good career, give me Option 4.
