This is the history of this franchise. Never good enough and never bad enough. I hope they don't win another game. Get one of the QB's if they pick around 10 or so. Start the rebuild. Granted I am assuming that Mac knows who the f to pick and that we have a CS who can teach and mentor a young QB. 2 big assumptions.

I have stated this before, I don't want any of these 3 QBs back next year if possible, Mcown is not the future and if the other 2 are not capable of beating out a 38 year old QB who's career in the NFL is almost over, then start fresh next year.

Draft a couple of rookie QBs like Washington did with RG3 and Kirk cousins and start fresh at the QB position.

  3. I'm not a believer in Hack or Petty by any means & as such I'm not fixated on either of them playing this season. But it speaks to a bigger issue internally. If Bowles wants to win to save his job, yeah it f'ng sucks for the longtime fans cause we know the team is crap but that's what he was hired to do. But we're at 7 losses now & maybe they aren't ready to hand the keys over to the youngsters for another loss or two...but what are we gaining from Mccown starting?? We know what he is & what he's not. But Bowles just seems so bullish about it..The offense couldn't be more of a mess & at least playing ALL the youngsters(Shell/Mcguire/Hanson/Stewart included) provides some hope & an eye to the future. It's as if the offense is complete trash yet still there is no long term plan or prioritizing.

What's my biggest fear? Petty & esp Hack sit the rest of this year. Come combine time in Jan we'll be hearing about how much progress they've both made & to make way for a competition with 39 year old Mccown this spring.Meanwhile they go defense/OL in the draft & as soon as the first wave of OTA's are over "newly resigned Josh Mccown is Todd Bowles quarterback". Just keep kicking that can down the road. However crappy Hack & Petty might really be,playing them these last few games removes some of that stigma. Which perhaps the whole reason we wont be seeing them; Keep buying them more time on the cruise to nowhere

he may not be the future, but he's let us seen what we have in talent around him. anderson is shining, kearse is looking good as is maguire. plus enunwa will be back. ASJ is mostly looking good but needs to work on securing the ball better. Really on offense all we need at this point is maybe 1 stud WR to go with anderson, kearse, enunwa, a QB, and some o-line help. I'd love to sign a couple of good lineman this offseason. we have the money

also QB wise i want to say this. Minn has bradford, bridgewater, and keenum. bradford has looked great the past year or so until he got hurt. bridgwater was looking great until that nasty kneww injury and keenum is looking dam good so far. No way they keep all 3, i wouldn't mind grabbing one of them. I assume they keep bridgewater and keenum and get rid of bradford who is young enough for a good 5 more years or so

Exactly. It’s mind boggling that so many in one fan base can be so lost. “Oh one more game and play Petty.” Get the heck out of here. Petty can’t play. That’s why this guy is playing. Just because a player is young doesn’t mean he’s the future. Petty can’t play. Hack can’t play. That’s it. What’s so hard to follow? Yes, it sucks that they wasted a 2 and a 4 on QB’s who can’t play. But you don’t compound the problem here. McCown is gonna finish the season with the highest passer rating since Pennington. Long term he isn’t the answer but don’t stunt the short-term for two guys who can’t play. You want to see a team quit? Put McCown on the bench.

If offense isn’t priority 1 this offseason than yea, there are problems with this regime but right now, with how many young players they have contributing this season, it’s hard for me to get mad at Bowles for the ones that aren’t. The offense could very easily be more of a mess, we as jet fans know this better than most. I like the fact that Bowles does not hedge on this and makes it clear what is happening. He owes nothing to the media or fans in that regard and should stay bullish about it. It’s a Parcells trait he is doing very well. No qb controversy no media noise and no one was complaining when he stood the same steadfast line in 2015.
Now if chris Johnson wants to fire him for 3 straight playoff misses than it is what it is but there is a foundation here something worth seeing through another year

  7. The franchise could easily sit both youngsters for the rest of this year only to retain them & hype up how much progress theyve made behind the scenes. Meanwhile they could bring back Mccown or some other retread for an "open competition" w. said youngsters. It may sound crazy but these are the Jets. You can bet Bowles wants a vet behind center & to go defense early & often in the draft. What better way to buy them time than the the young QB's who haven't had real snaps in a year..or ever for that matter?

At the very least playing Hack & Petty now removes that charade from the equation.

Bowels won't be making the picks, the gag man will be but I agree the results will be the same less another clean sweep.

I agree, 1 more year. I don't understand why fans get so caught up in press conferences too (from the above post I believe). I haven't seen one since Rex Ryan's meltdown, when he kept turning his head like a madman trying to be a reporter / coach.

Fan entitlement, there are fans that think they deserve to know everything and that the coach has to answer to them and players need to be taken to task in public for every little thing. And yet just this week we heard how demanding and emotional Bowles was in practice and yet, he is an emotionless statue because he does not do it for public consumption.

  11. The players act entitled, the owners act entitled, the media acts entitled & even the league acts entitled. But who are the one's that fill the seats, buy the merch, bring the game to life & in Jet fans cases take decades worth of abuse from opposing viewpoints? It's the fans. We have every right & every reason to feel entitled.

I don't expect Bowles to be a glowing personality, to show his hand or cater to media or fan uprisings. But just a slight dash of realism, humanity & transparency would be appreciated. His press conferences couldnt be a bigger waste of time. Even when he does offer a dash of insight it's always dismissive & self affirmative in nature. Even in the offseason when there's no game plan at risk...just absolutely nothing out of the guy

Just a dash of full circle would be nice. Does he have a plan?Does he understand the urgency w. the QB void? Does he understand how much of a joke the offense has been since 2012?? Just SOMETHING out of the guy to show that he's not battery charged, isn't coaching sometime in 1976 & actually gives a damn about this organization.

Bill Bellicheat pretty much mumbles incoherently in press conferences...and when the babble is sorted it's significantly more insightful & noteworthy than Bowles. Let that sink in for a minute..

There's never any emotion out of Bowles or public engagement at ALL.And that works for some coaches. But when you give the fans/MEDIA NOTHING & leave everything up to the product on the field you leave yourself vulnerable to criticism. Based on the team's play, the in game coaching & Bowles inability to paint a picture of progress of any kind...how are we to think anything except his gag order is b.c he's in fact clueless?

Exactly why does he have to acknowledge the offense from 2012?
This is part of the problem. Why are we trying the current regime for the crimes of a regime twice removed?
And I disagree on the progress shown, many young players are playing and playing well. The biggest problems on this team are the ones that have been ignored from a personnel stand point.

  13. When the current regime takes the exact same “win w defense” path of the prior 2 regimes including the same “nothing to see here/wait till next year every year” approach to the offense they open themselves up to to the criticism.

If new management takes over a failing pizzeria & 3 years later the pizza still sucks is it up to the customer base or board of directors(if there is one) to decide whose fault the shitty pizza is or take action against the incumbent who did nothing to fix the product in the first place?

I see 0 impact players on offense..0.All of the exciting young players are on D..what a surprise.I refuse to get sucked in to believing that these young defenders are somehow gonna transform into this dominant unit that somehow is an exception to obvious reality that it’s a scoring league & defense no longer wins.Defensive prospects are a dime a dozen w this franchise & I won’t be fooled w that narrative any longer.

Where the hell is the attention to this offense?

Ask the gm that has drafted defense with his 3 first round picks.
As far as young offensive players, McGuire looks like a player, good burst, hands he’ll be a starter next year
    Robbie is explosive
Enunwa will be back next year.
    ASJ,Tomlinson are decent tight ends.
    Kearse is a pro
There is enough talent here to make noise except where the team has been grossly ignored (ol) or the position that separates the haves from the have nots (qb)
But it’s all out there for them now, good qb class, extra high draft pick war chest of cap space. I’m excited to see where this goes.

So am I.......FA period will be interesting to see Mac's strategy. Does he go after Cousins ? Does he tread lightly and sign one or two young starters and make a few depth singings ? As far as the draft goes does he draft a QB in the first round ? Does he double dip at QB ? How about RB ? Personally I'd like to see him double dip there and team them up with McGuire........The OL needs two new starters. They've been looking for a pure pass rusher for over 10 years now. It is really going to be interesting......

Overall, I strongly agree with this post. Depending upon what you mean by "impact player," I may have to disagree with that portion. If you mean All Pro-type players or players who can take over a game, then I agree, but if you mean players who are threats to score or make big plays, and that opposing DCs have to think about, if not game plan for, then I would disagree. Based on the latter definition, Anderson is an impact player imo. He has the speed to score from anywhere on the field. Bilal Powell fits into that definition as well. Enunwa is close to that level and if ASJ can stop bobbling the ball and the Jets target him more, he could be close to that definition as well. There's no doubt that they need to add FQB, a topnotch RB who can carry the ball 25 times a game and who can score from anywhere on the field, likely a #1-type WR, and need to seriously upgrade their OL. If Bowles is back, I won't much care, because it will still be the same old ultraconservative, play-not-to-lose BS. Even if he had a stable full of thoroughbreds on the offensive side of the ball, he'd make plow horses out of them.

Why double dip at RB? Powell should still be good for another year or two. If they have given up on both Petty and Hack, I'd rather they double dip at QB. If not, then I'd rather they spread the love around.

I hope that there will be a good, fairly young starting C and either an upgrade at LT or RT in FA, and that Mac will sign them and an upgrade at OG depth I also hope there's a decent #2 CB type available that Mac will sign.

    I'd love to see the draft go something like: 1 - QB, 2a - OLB/edge rusher, 2b - #1 type WR, 3 - RB, 4 - ILB, 5 - QB, 6-7 STs.

If I am mac I make a run at cousins and if I land him the draft is o line heavy, if I miss on cousins I am signing o line, best I can get, and doing whatever I can to get my qb in the draft.
Macs mission this winter is get us a viable qb,
He comes back with his shield or on it.

That was the implication leading into hack. Using "and"
Trust me, I know who they meant.

Petty is like a fragile wet cat, if recent history dictates who he likely is......."and hell, I can't say I've ever heard a team source saying someone couldnt hit the ocean before. But after seeing hack and still seeing mcgown"

    It's an all inclusive sentence.

I think people actually think they'd like to find out under game conditions rather than attempting to analyze via soundbites. The Jets will not make the playoffs. Seriously, they won't. Play Petty enough to know what he actually is during real NFL games this year.
