True what yo say...A big SS is 6'+ & 220-230lbs....But Miller has unique qualities that I see can possibly be used from the Safety position. This guy seems bigger than that 190+lbs that they list him as. THis guy is fast & I notice that his closing speed approaching the line of scrimmage would only enhance the Jets' defense. But clearly...To maximize his talent...he needs to face the play & this can happen from the SS position. Rhodes is a very good free safety. I envision this as a successful & progressive transtion. Only opportunity & time will tell.

Oh, that was a different argument all together-- I think Miller could be a good Saftey. I don't know what everyone's talking about with the tackling, I have seen Miller lay some pretty big hits. With his speed, I could see him being a Bob Sanders type- sticking people, and being around the ball. I think it's worth a shot anyway-- he's a good athlete, and should be on the field period.

Coleman and Rhodes are a great tandem and are interchangeable with each other. Erik Smith is a solid backup and should have a solid season. Rashard Washington played well at times when called upon. Sorry, no room for Miller.

Big Cotch....Without question....This guy is a playmaker & needs to be on field. With Rhodes & Miller blitzing...Teams gotta watchout...& he can lay a good lick. This guy is very physical & is only gonna get stronger. :jets:

I'll pretend i didn't even read this post. Strong Safeties are usually one of, if the not the best tackler on the team. They don't necessarily have to be really fast but they have to be a fundamentally sound tackler. Justin Miller is a lousy tackler. His only problem is he doesn't play the ball well when its up in the air and he doesn't turn his head to face the ball in time.

Miller can't back pedal? Sorry, that's just flat out incorrect. He tries to play outside the system, he tries to jump routes when he shouldn't. His problem is he's either too stupid to play within the scheme, or he's got an ego "I'm Ty Law" sort of mindset. This guy is either WAY too stupid to play safety, or WAY too undisciplined. I vote for plenty of both. Miller as a safety.... geeeeezuz.

If the Jets played a true FS, Miller could be a big turnover machine. He was in college and that's where he was expected to make most of his big plays when he was drafted....returning INTs.

If possible, Coleman can be upgraded, but Miller is not the answer in my book. Don't sell Eric Smith short, this kid could play....

We all see Eric Smith and hope he's going to be the next John Lynch, but Scott Frost's face keep's popping up inside his helmet.

    Hopefully, Smith is the answer.

 Oh, I thought it was Jon McGraw's face.

Actually, I like Smith and am looking forward to seeing how he progresses this year....

I agree. Miller has some of the best raw talent on the team. The problem is his technique and footwork is the worst in the league. He relies totally on his speed and cannot tackle at all.
Playing corner has very little to do with backpeddling. Safeties must use the back pedal much more than corners and there technique is much more important, see John Lynch. Two placed where miller is awful at. Miller needs to quick relying on his speed and work on his foot work. If he does that this offseason, he could be unbelievable at corner. The problem is he won the fastest man constest so you know his ego is too big to work on some fundamentals!

I hate when people look at a couple of plays and dub someone inadequate to play a position. Aaron Glenn also ran back punts and kick off's which seemed to effect his Corner play. But they found another guy to "Try" and run them back. And Aaron was able to settle into being a shut down corner! This is the same scenario as the J Vilma haters, Time will tell, for now he's still a good player to rotate in during the games.

I think Miller could be a great corner, but he has to work on his footwork and technique.

Size, speed etc., it doesn't matter for 2 reasons:

    1. We have a top FS and two good players at SS
    2. He's a lousy, eratic tackler.

His back to the line if scrimmage? Where do you get this stuff from?
Also, I've never seen ANY CB who can back pedal fast enough to keep up with a WR.

Do yourself a favor and rewatch the games. He had no Issues this year "Keeping up" with WR's.
