I haven’t watched any college games so I only know what I read, but what I keep seeing is that this QB class is bad to mediocre…maybe one or two guys but even those guys have warts. I want us all to remember these evaluations while we are actually seeing them play, because I’m sure, like every other year, once the season ends and the offseason workouts and the combine and the predraft hype kick in, a lot of these guys will be elevated. And that hardly ever works out. So personally, I would prefer to see us either use our first top pick on a blue chip player at either WR or Edge, or trade down if the board doesn’t fall that way. We can then see if our second first round pick justifies a QB, but again, from what I’m hearing, I’m guessing it won’t, so go use it on a solid positional player…can be DT, CB, S, WR…any of those would make sense with the Colts’ pick which would be I’m assuming somewhere in the twenties. Then, I would NOT waste any other pick on a so-called “developmental QB”…I can almost GUARANTEE he won’t pan out…regardless of if he’s a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th rounder he won’t amount to anything. The overwhelming evidence and historical players at the QB position who are any good are all first rounders outside of a very few outliers (this year we can look at Hurts, Dak, and Purdy). I would bet my house that we do NOT have the coaching staff capable of finding these later rounds needles in a haystack. It’s a delusional fantasy…a pipe dream. It’s that way for most of the NFL, but in the history of the Jets over 60 years, we’ve never done it. Never. Let’s not waste a pick. I don’t want Fields on this team next year, so we’d need to go find a scrub…and I don’t know who that would be yet but there are usually like 2 or 3 of these types of guys…guys like Brissett, Winston, Flacco, etc…you know you’re not going to the playoffs with them, but at least they can play the position, because you’re also not going to the playoffs with a 3rd or 4th round rookie either. More and more, it’s looking like the smart move will be to pass on a QB this draft and hope for a better draft pool in 2027.
I love everything about this but waiting on a QB is risky. If there is 3 or 4 guys and we aren't picking top 3 or 4 there is a good chance those teams need QBs and won't take picks to move back. Sounds brilliant on paper but it's a huge gamble. I personally think we are picking top 3 this year so I think if we have a shot at a Mendoza we take it. A tall pocket passer with accuracy and processing skills sounds refreshing to say the least. I don't watch college either so maybe he sucks lol but we have another 1st rounder so it doesn't sink the draft. That said if there is a star pass rusher, WR, DT or WR at the beginning of the first I wouldn't be upset.
Ya not in tonight's game he's not, 4 picks, I wish the best for Sam, he got a poor shake here, but that can be said by most that have been drafted to this dumpster fire of a franchise
No, no, no NO!!!!!! God damn it! If this kid isn't a top 10 pick in a NORMAL draft then NO! I'm sick and tired of drafting fools because it's the best of a shitty crop. And damn sure flippin' skippy a weak arm "shouldn't be drafted above 20!!! I don't give a shit if he is the ONLY QB in the draft. NO! Stop burning high picks on a Mother f'n PROJECTS!!!! HOW many more dudes are we going to burn through and waste valuable years? If the QB isn't as sure fire as it can get then no no no no noooooooooooo!
It might come down to where we draft. If we're in a position to take Mendoza without having to trade up, we take him. If not, we sit pat and take someone else. I'm not sure the front office will be comfortable punting on QB for another year though so if we're remotely in range to get him I could see us making a move to do so. The 2027 QB class will probably be better but it's pretty risky to wait. So many things can change between now and then.
