I thought the clock management was pretty good but the OL on that last drive… yikes. Membou had a brain fart and then Myers had an even worse one. That was almost disastrous.
Yeah, I thought after converting on the 3rd and 5 with 12 seconds left, they should have just taken the clock down and attempted the kick. They used the timeout, which led to the penalty disaster, and Tyrod had to kill some time on an incomplete pass. I am definitely being critical- it all worked out in the end. Go Jets!!
Team played really hard, I’m glad they came away with the W. If nothing else, Glenn hasn’t lost the team, which is impressive after the FO completely threw in the towel on the season. Have to learn how to win in order to move forward. Today they did just that.
When you have been a fan 41 years (with no championship), I will consider valuing your opinion as much as my own.
Nothing is set in stone yet. The Browns seem to be warming up to Sanders and the Saints rookie Shough has turned a few heads….still 5 games left and Mendoza still has to show he can put up these stats against superior teams. A lot to be decided still….
The problem with your logic is the ENTIRE operation, league wide, is to WIN football games. Period. End of story. Every single coach and every single player's contracts are about winning football games. Not; if the season goes south, lose football games so the fans can have what the want and wait for a player that may never materialize, drafted or not.
When Ohio State smokes Indiana a lot of people are going to stop with this Mendoza at the top of the draft talk. It's KILLING me with all the hype these middle of the road QB's seem to be generating. Crazy insane...
it’s because there really is no other “top” QB prospect this year and when that happens the media tends to overhype whoever comes close. I’m not saying Mendoza will not be a good QB for all we know he could be a great one….but the lack of strong opposing teams plus the fact that Indiana does not have a history of producing NFL QBs would mean the odds are not exactly in his favor for a successful career. However, financially he is setting himself up very well.
He won’t slide that far unless he completely comes apart in the playoffs but I also don’t see any teams trading the farm to jump up to grab him. Or Simpson. If they slide down to a team say #6 or whatever fine. But as of now I as a GM would not be comfortable giving up multiple top picks to draft him.
I get it, I am speaking from the fans' view, not organization, players, coaches. I don't think anyone has said they want the players or coaches to lose on purpose. But for us as fans it is logical to want a higher pick, especially when we need to get a QB. This could be a one QB draft. If you are right about Mendoza, maybe Moore is the only one with high probability of success. If we finish say 4th, we perhaps we could do the trade Miller from ESPN spoke about iand get him. That's the point: logically for us as fans (again not for the organization to tank but for the fans to root) it makes sense to be within striking distance to get a top QB. But emotionally, of course we want our team to win, players to feel good, etc... Herein lies the dilemma. But one thing I did learn is that winning meaningless games does not translate to better performance next year when it matters. We have seen it with Gase and Saleh way to many times. Having a better QB, however, does translate into better performance. Look at Maye in our own division for example - NE lost a lot including to us at the end, and was able to pick Maye with 3d pick, which helped A LOT more than a few meaningless wins at the end would have. So for that reason I personally want to have a higher pick, so that there is a better chance to draft a good QB straight up or be within striking distance to trade up for one. I think objectively logically longer term it is better for us. But I completely understand the opposing point of view as well to go with your heart to win a few extra games now. We can disagree on that and that's completely fine.
I think that time is when you need a QB, which is where we are right now. As far as questionable prospects, a lot of them are. It's not all about Andrew Luck type of prospect. If we can get someone like Moore, I think it would be really good for us.
I agree Membou has been good all year but today he sucked…two false starts, gave up a sack and a bunch of pressures…today was not good from him Metchie was also ass today with a few drops, including a critical one by the end zone…hope that’s not a trend for him as he’s been good till now but today he sucked
but that is a true statement, well, both parts tbh Do you really want to go 8-9 or 9-8 every season, obviously winning team seem to manage picking late in the draft and keep themselves relevant for years, 14 years of utter shit from this team and we still struggle in the draft and on the pitch, you see other teams got from poor to to good in a couple of drafts, shocking from the Jets, really. Of course, we want to cheer wins on every week, the focus is on the every and not once a month.
