if the team was still even remotely in contention I would think "well a win is a win" and not dwell on how it happened - but a win like that over a really bad Browns team that only came about because of two once in a blue moon returns for TDs does nothing but paper over the cracks, worsen the draft position and make it even less likely the team clears house at the end of the season.
This guy does not or cannot throw a forward pass on a regular basis yet he's a starting quarterback in the NFL. How can it be possible?
One word - Jets. (although the opposing side basically was in the exact same position, so I guess two words - Browns, and Jets)
It was a great win it always feels good to watch a win. A KR TD, a PR TD in the same game the first time that's happened in franchise history it was shown on the big screens in the stadium. Great special teams the Jets unit must be one of the best in the NFL in 2025. Breece Hall great day and what a smart player doing whatever he could to stay inbounds on his carries late in the game. It shows how badly he wants to win. The defense Quinnen who? Sauce who? Unfortunately I have to nitpick. How do professional coaches NFL lifers with two weeks to prepare for this game HOW was it possible that Garrett Wilson & Mason Taylor were not involved at all in the offense? I don't think Garret caught a pass today, Mason had 1 catch a short catch early in the third quarter that I can remember. What are these coaches doing during their gameplanning meetings? We're not going to throw the ball to Garrett Wilson & Mason Taylor? It's maddening.
I mean there has to be ways to scheme open Garrett but let’s face it, Fields isn’t seeing the field well enough to do so. Teams with good defenses already know what to do. Bracket Garrett so you can’t throw to him, make Fields throw to legit ANYONE else. Bring the house so you force Fields to panic and hold onto the ball…he really hasn’t shown he can adjust to that. The RB screen call was the best play of the game on offense lol. No amount of having AD or Metchie or Megatron with Tony G will change the fact that Fields can’t see the field well enough. It’s really a miracle that the jets can get something worth a damn on the ground despite how one sided it is right now. Tyron when he’s not broken can at least move the offense moderately down the field. Maybe Cook can keep the offense on schedule passing wise. But right now, it doesn’t look good at all.
I mean the Browns have been averaging about 15 points a game so I wouldn't read too much into that performance.
Your numbers made it look like Sauce had a stellar game, but for any Colt fan who watched it, they'd probably question why the front office decided to pay such a heavy premium for him. I will give him credit for actually participating in a few decent tackles, especially one against a bruising running back. But my guess is he's in the honeymoon phase right now with the Colts and that too shall pass.
For the first few weeks of the season we were the worst defense in the league and now after trading our two best defenders we were horrible field position given up by our terrible quarterback away from holding a team under their average. No matter how you look at it it’s a good day for the defense and that staff. I will say that 95 yard touchdown drive the Browns did have in the first quarter… Wilks was absolutely destroyed. But that’s also the classic “first few plays are scripted“ thing that leads offenses to look better than they are.
I happened to tune in toward the end of regulation. The pass breakup he had he jumped the sideline route and the pass went through his hands. Had he made that interception, he had a clear path to the endzone for a pick six which would have given the Colts a victory without the need for OT. I was thinking that's typical Sauce.
Well, to be fair, we did not hold them under their average. They are so bad on offense, they average only 16 ppg, and we gave up 20. Their offense is even worse than ours. Still given we just lost two major players, had a bad TO on offense to put them directly in FG range once, and were giving up in average 27 ourselves, this is perhaps somewhat of a plus outcome, no reason to complain there. Unfortunately it cost us AZ, I was really looking forward to evaluate him going forward as a possible long term starter.
The AZ concussion is a huge bummer. To be fair though he was having a rough game before that. So was Brownlee. I was a little concerned, still am. And it sucks even more that it happened on a short week and we won’t have him Thursday night. But I also said we were close to holding them under average but our QB threw one of the worst picks I’ve seen in a long time and gave the ball to Cleveland at the 22 yard line.
In the first half the defense in general was having a tough time, though I thought there were a couple of softish PI calls on AZ and Brownlee, plus they basically were on the field the entire half. They did clamp up in the second, would have been good to see AZ play then. We traded for some CB kid from the Chargers at the deadline. I have not heard of him before. He only played ST yesterday. Maybe he will get some PT as wide CB, I like Brownlee at the nickel back.
