Good grief! Give fields a chance. I thought on 2 of his incompletions tonight def pass int should have been called and so did the jets WRs
The jets outplayed the giants in the 1st half. Their problem is no pass rush at all. The Giants qbs are nothin special. but they had all day.
Last week the Jets were world beaters and this week they are the worst team in the league. Relax, it's just preseason, which means very little!
OMG Please clean this up A Glenn!!!! I disagree .with another post I saw yesterday ...most important part of Team Is Management ..Second is youR QB and there's a woeful situation developing (big sigh:///)
A very fair point, which is why my initial view has been revised based on watching them in action. JF is not a passing QB at any rate. However, this is augmented by not having too many people that can catch on a regular basis. I don't want to be negative, largely because it isn't really in my nature, but we've heard this "we'll be ready for week 1" narrative so many times, when they plainly are not.
No way that would have worked. The only way to run it back with Aaron would have been to also bring back Downing and Hackett and all of AR's pals. Glenn would not have put up with Rodgers and there would have been constant conflict and drama all season. Wilson doesn't sign his new contract either as the two of them just didn't mesh. They may lose a lot of games this year, but at least they will do it quietly.
Let’s not get crazy. I was in favor at first but blowing it up sooner rather than later was the right move. Blowing it up entails a pretty bad year 1, and make no mistake about it we will be bad and we don’t have a QB moving forward. But that’s part of the game. We’ve failed so many times that we’re conditioned to think bad now = bad forever. It’s been mostly true. But most teams are bad before they are good.
I’m not saying we should replace him, but insurance will become available, including guys who are just better QB’s than Fields is. Maybe lighting strikes but Fields has done nothing in camp or games to spark hope. If Jameis Winston becomes available I think we have to sign him.
Either/both Winston and Devito will be available and both are upgrades over what the Jets have. Devito played well for a rookie last year and I'd take a flyer on him honestly.
Cutlets is awful. Come on…. Fields is bad but he’s not Divito bad. Jameis though? I’d make that swap in a heartbeat. also… we’re not going to do that. The entire offense is designed around a QB that can run the way Fields does. Guys like that won’t be available.
I am much more confident in this coaching staff addressing last night's issues than the last couple. Also WR2 is going to be as big of a problem as Fields is
I came to this conclusion in the Packer game. I want to see what Martinez can do with the 1's. He is, without a doubt, 3 times the passer that Fields is. Probably the single greatest thing that drives me batshit crazy are the teams that put players in position BECAUSE of their draft slot...3 or 4 teams down the line. Fields was a first round pick of the Bears, not the Squeelers or the Jets. The fact he was a 1st round pick was flushed the minute he found himself on his 3rd team. When training camp opens, IMHO, is the minute ALL the QB's are on a level playing field. Even more so if one is outperforming the other. I like Fields. He seems like an upstanding kid. I want him to succeed. We all do. However, most of us have been very realistic, while holding out hope, that he more than likely flames out as a starter and becomes a career backup. We don't need to start a career backup, regardless of salary, if he can't seem to beat out the rest of the QB's on the roster. There are many reports of Taylor outplaying him in camp. That's not a good sign. We'll see. Only the 2nd pre-season game and, as many have pointed out, Martinez is going against the scrubs. However, he has been in the building for 2 years, now going on his 3rd, so... I don't know. Just feels like Fields is killing my "good vibe" buzz before the season even gets underway. I was/still am for now holding out hope he "gets it" but, so far, doesn't appear so. Then again, Glenn could be running such a vanilla offense that no no one can look good. Thank our lucky stars for what looks like a top 5 rushing attack. This is going to be the best running team since the Jones/Washington and Martin/Lamont Jordan days. To be frank, health willing, this has the potential to be the best rushing team the Jets have ever fielded. Can you say "Student Body right and left?" You know, Bill Parcells used to say, "do what you do best and ram it down their throats until they stop it." Garrett Wilson may not like it but I'll take this team rushing the ball 2 to 1 vs. passing if that's what it takes. Think about it. Defenses today are built to stop the pass. Smaller linebackers and DL designed to rush the passer. Good luck handling a wishbone offense.
Oh, you can write this down. If the Jets are picking #1 there's no way Arch Manning comes out. I hear they are trying to talk him in to staying in school anyway.
No one is calling Fields a bust. He IS a bust. 3rd team in 5 years does not a successful pick make. He's on the NY Jets trying to resurrect a career that never got off the ground so, yeah, he's a bust until otherwise proven different. The optimism of the last 4 or 5 months was around seeing a couple other guys, Geno Smith and Sam Darnold not withstanding, going to other teams and finally getting "it." Baker Mayfield comes to mind as well. So, let's not be wiping off the "lipstick from the pig" just yet. The kid is a bust and he's in NY land to give it one last go before he joins the very long line of 1st round QB busts. When you are a fanbase of a team getting ready to add to their already record breaking playoff-less streak, you try to find the positives in what you can.
Fields has just looked like he’s aiming the ball all preseason. Not that he has been an accurate NFL quarterback but he’s pointing his hand at the end of his throws as if he’s trying to throw a ball through a ring at a carnival. Maybe he’s just working on some mechanical things? Maybe he’s too mentally aware that this is his last shot? Maybe he’s fine and it’s just preseason. We’re going to find out I guess.
I agree there will be more accountability, but the main issue is that we just can't pass the ball well no matter how badly we want to. It's not the sort of thing that accountability alone will fix. We simply can't do it with the current players. We will need a top 5 defense and running game to be good a la the Rex years.
