He looks like that because that is what he is. Our third string QB is better at passing the ball down the field.
Unfortunately I see a lot of plays this year where opposing QB’s have 14 years to throw the ball before they find an open receiver.
Eh yeah but I think they also want to get the kicking operation work. I don’t think it’s necessarily an indication as to what we’ll do in the regular season.
I can’t see the all-22 but it looks like we’re playing some zone. That’s great to see to an extent. It means Glenn is letting Wilks coach his decent and being the football CEO. One of Glenn’s biggest knocks was that he was stubborn as fuck in playing man to man no matter the injuries to the personnel.
It looked like the weak side safety got beat in his deep half in a cover 2 zone and Cisco was trying to catchup to it as the backside safety. I might be wrong though that’s only the preliminary look based on nothing other than a TV angle. I don’t believe it was man to man.
I have to admit, Martinez has looked very good throwing the ball. I don't know if that is more a reflection of maybe second-string defenses he's facing, but he looks more comfortable throwing than Fields does.
I was just going to say something along these likes Brook. Martinez looks smooth. He’s looked way better than Fields and is easily the same level of runner (if not better if I’m being honest). At this point, I think Martinez should be rostered. And I’m shocked I’m saying that because I watched his entire college career and it was unbelievably uninspiring.
Yeah. My old boss is from Kansas and when we signed him he told me not to get too excited. But this preseason he seems really decent. It is still the preseason and I won't put too much stock into his play but if there is smoke there is maybe fire? Edit: Signed him not drafted him
Hate to say it, but Fields and starters shout have played more and take some passing reps downfield. They sure need them.
In the first preseason game we saw some good route concepts which got receivers open. We don't need our QB to be lighting it up all over the field, we just need a guy who is accurate and decisive on the short and midrange throws. Just keeping the chains moving through the air will be huge if we can continue running the ball well. When was the last time we simultaneously had a competent OC and QB? It's been ages. We had an OC who could scheme guys open and a QB who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with MLF/Wilson. We followed it up with an OC who couldn't scheme to save his life and the corpse of Rodgers. Would be nice to just have a basic, competent passing game for once. Not asking for the greatest show on turf here.
