I'm watching the NFL Network with Eisen and he announced it but some of the other picks have gone to fanzones to be announced
Just what you want in a Jets WR Overview Smith is the fastest player on the field. If a cornerback presses him and misses, he better have safety help because Smith averaged 36.5 yards on his 10 career touchdown receptions. He lacks play strength to finish catches when contested and his hands are unreliable, which could lead to NFL quarterbacks losing confidence in him. He could be a tantalizing option for teams looking to take a chance on his speed late in the draft, but his ball skills are unlikely to improve enough for him to become a long-term option. Strengths College sprinter with world-class speed. Uses feet and hands to quickly elude press. Creates big-play opportunities for accurate passers on deep throws. Speed creates plenty of workspace on intermediate throws. Dangerous option on slip screens and jet sweeps. Weaknesses Route-running lacks refinement. Loses speed when making route turns. Struggles to track and collect contested deep throws. Usually comes up empty when his catch is contested. Deeply troubling drop rate.
I've played that bloody NFL draft game for three months and I can't say I ever noticed his name once lol EDIT he is slated to go at 206 Height: 6 - 0 |Weight: 179 lbs |RAS: 9.2 Arian Smith has first-class level speed and is arguably the fastest receiver in the country. A nice deep threat who is good at tracking the ball while in the air. Well below-average career production levels. Has only one season in his career with over 200 receiving yards. He was a five-year player at Georgia but didn’t see the field until his final season. Didn’t stand out much in a weak receiver room. Smith has atrocious hands and is a very unreliable pass catcher with a ridiculously high 17.2% drop rate in his only season as a starter. Below-average ball winner in tight spaces and not somebody who can consistently go up and high point the ball with success. Despite his elite athletic ability, he doesn’t create at a high level after the catch. An older prospect who is still a massive work in progress. man, wtf are they thinking here?
NFL.com rates him as bottom of roster or practice squad. Looks like him and Corley will batlle to see who gets on the field. Have a strong feeling multiple WR picked after him will be better, but hopefully im wrong.
you probably haven’t heard of him because he was a projected sixth or seventh round pick. This is just a horrendous job unless our staff can teach a receiver who basically can’t do anything but run how to play receiver in the NFL.
Georgia fans do not have any kind words for this kid. Fast but old and has stone hands. Projected as 7th rd talent at best. I hope we’re trying to trade back into the 4th.
He’s in the long line of Georgia receivers that are responsible for their passing game being lackluster. 24 in October too. Hate it.
The guy is fast, but got butterfingers looks like. https://247sports.com/longformartic...24-college-football-season-243691328/#2578736 " Drops: 10 | Total Targets: 72 Smith not only led the SEC, but the entire Power Four with a whopping 10 drops this fall. It marked the first time an SEC wide receiver finished a season with double-digit drops since Missouri's J'Mon Moore totaled 10 in the 2016 season. Smith dropped two balls in the Week 5 loss at Alabama while quarterback Carson Beck tossed a pair of interceptions while targeting him. He dropped three balls two weeks later against Mississippi State and suffered his third multi-drop game in the eight-overtime win over Georgia Tech in the regular season finale." Pretty brutal. Also turning 24 this year, not exactly a spring chicken when it comes to the draft.
I think there’s a difference between concentration drops and contact drops. I don’t remember a ton of concentration drops, but I feel like I remember a lot of defensive backs contacting him and ripping at his arms/hands and jarring the ball loose. That is a bad sign if it’s happening in college.
I know nothing about him. There, now that that’s said… The writeups I saw are just plain awful…like borderline undraftable. Why do you want a WR with bad hands? Ugh…I wanted a WR, but if the writeups are halfway valid, then this is NOT the guy. Honestly, while I loved the first two rounds I have not liked the 3rd and 4th round picks. Again, I’ll say I know nothing about either guy, so my opinion is pretty close to worthless if I’m honest, but I still don’t get the need for a slower corner in the 3rd round and I’m baffled by taking a WR who can’t catch in the 4th round. Bad hands don’t become good hands in the NFL. I don’t get it. We should have gone WR in the 3rd and then DT in the 4th and gone for DB help later in the draft. I’m trying not to overreact about players I don’t know, but just looking at the position on the CB and the bad notes on the WR, I’m pretty unhappy with our last two picks. Confused for sure.
Obviously hoping for the best but don't like it; a guy with this speed that can barely get on the field at the college level over a full college career probably means he's not much of a football player despite how fast he is. A definite need position but IMO there were several better options in the 4th.
I feel a little bit better because we’re not the only team to make some whacky receiver picks so far. The Broncos taking Pat Bryant, Titans taking Dike. Looks like the NFL and the draft pundits are very much not aligned this year at the position.
Yup…same old shit New GM, but still the same scouts And the decision making hasn’t improved apparently And yes, I’m overreacting maybe given I know nothing about either of our last two picks, but honestly I hate them both and especially an old receiver with shit hands. Ugh…just awful. If this was still JD, or Mac, or Idzik, we’d all be killing them for this shit. I get they are 3rd and 4th round picks, but man, we should be getting solid contributors here if we really want to change the culture and build a solid foundation. Taking a slow corner when we had bigger needs at DT and WR was not great, but I was willing to give AG the benefit of the doubt on taking a corner, but now combined with taking an old WR who can’t catch is just awful draft management. Like always, we’ll see how the players do on the field, but I do not like the last two picks. Like at all. Loved the first two. Hate the second two. Hope both the corner and the receiver prove me wrong, and I’ll be rooting for them to shine obviously, but my opinion of our new rookie GM just took a pretty significant hit.
I guess. But you have to understand value when it’s the top of the 4th and the consensus on a guy is 6th round. Unless the consensus is THAT far off from what NFL teams think. It’s an alarming 3rd and 4th rounds. At least the third rounder was a great player.
