Wilson isn't on the team any more. I think you meant Rodgers and Taylor were off-target a lot today. ;):p:D

LOL The joke's on me. Obviously, I thought that you were in the habit of typing Rodgers and Wilson when talking about the Jets QB play in practice, and typed "Wilson" when you meant Taylor, but LAJet corrected me saying that you were talking about Rodgers and Garrett Wilson. Sorry about that!

I think he's referring to Rodgers' vacation trip to Egypt during mini-camp.

LOL OK, thanks. Obviously, I thought he was in the habit of typing Rodgers and Wilson from last year, and thought he was talking about the QBs, not Rodgers and Garrett Wilson.

According to ESPN reporter Rich Cimini, they have removed rookies Leonard Taylor and Tyler Harrell from the Physically unable to perform (PUP) list after both passed their physicals.

Taylor and Harrell were signed as undrafted rookies, part of the group of 17 who the Jets inked to deals following their seven-player draft class.

Taylor is a defensive tackle from the University of Miami where he spent three seasons and was a full-time starter for two of them. During his collegiate career, he recorded 61 total tackles, 23.5 of them for a loss, to go along with six sacks across his 31 games.

I think it would be funny sometime if a team signed an actual dog and then put him on the PUP list

    General Notes

    - Players in shirts & shorts

    - The first practice of camp was short, lasting 1:45

    - Change in the warmup routine, last year all players went through the same exercises
together. This year the warmup period is tailored to the position you play, so if
you're a speed player (RB, WR, CB) you work on vertical speed over longer distances.
If you're a power player (DL, OL) you work on short area speed and horizontal movements.
We'll see if it prevents injuries

    - Lots of new drills incorporated by the OL coach (Keith Carter):
    * Using more "live bodies" when going over technique/hand placement instead of only pads
    * Having players work on their upper body posture by balancing wooden sticks on their shoulders
    * Having players strengthen their hand punch by working with sand bags

    - Morgan Moses was working on the side with trainers

    - The initial players auditioning for the returner job are Xavier Gipson, Malachi Corley, Tarik
    Cohen and Brandon Codrington

    - A fairly even practice, as the offense started out hot early during 11 on 11 and 7 on 7 drills.
The defense stiffened later during the red zone period

This report is by a guy who goes by KRL at Jets Nation.

    Defense Notes

    - Jamien Sherwood diagnosing and blowing up a screen pass to Xazavian Valladay as he got reps with
    the starters

    - The new DT Leki Fotu had a couple of "flashy" plays as he blew up Tarik Cohen for no gain. And he
knocked down a Tyrod Taylor pass at the line of scrimmage

    - A couple of young CBs stood out during their reps. Jarrick Bernard-Converse with a nice read and
pass breakup of a Taylor pass. And rookie Qwantez Stiggers had a "pick 6" off of a Andrew Peasley
pass. Stiggers read where the QB was going with the ball, fell off his man and picked off the pass

    - A couple of nice plays by Sauce Gardner during the red zone period. He almost had an INT on a pass
to Gipson that was batted in the air. And he showed excellent technique on Garrett Wilson as he forced
him to widen out his route on an attempted fade from Aaron Rodgers which fell incomplete

    Offense Notes

    - Nice "chunk" runs by the RBs (Breece Hall, Braelon Allen & Isaiah Davis) during 11 on 11. Each going
    for 15+ yards

    - Noticeable lack of reps for Izzy Abanikanda out of the backfield. And the one rep that did stand out
was a dropped screen from Peasley

    - With Rodgers back at QB there was an Allen Lazard sighting as he caught the first pass of practice
for 20+ yards. He also caught a TD from Rodgers during red zone which led to the defense having to
    do pushups

    QB Notes

    - Rodgers picked apart the defense in the early part of practice with the ball rarely touching the ground.
Particularly interesting was watching him use his cadence to force the defense to show what they were going
to do on one play. Then exploiting a void in the defense with a wide open screen to Valladay for 15+ yards

    - Taylor had a noticeable play during red zone when he hit Irvin Charles on a post route for a TD. He also
showed some of his BUF tendencies, when his first read isn't there he looks to get out of the pocket immediately

    Standouts

    - Aaron Rodgers
    - Allen Lazard
    - Sauce Gardner
    - Keith Carter (OL Coach)

Biggest Takeaways from Opening Jets Training Camp Practice
    Story by Nick Faria

The first day of training camp for the New York Jets is in the books and there were plenty of major takeaways.

From the perception of one of their stars being unavailable at practice, to the surprising standouts of a cast-off, the Jets put forth a solid day of work at the team's facility in Florham Park.

Let's get to the biggest takeaways.

    Allen Lazard Shines

If there was a clear winner on the first day, Allen Lazard was the obvious one for the New York Jets.

Lazard struggled with drops and separation in 2023 but started training camp in 2024 with a 20-yard leaping catch over the middle of the field in traffic. The former Packer later caught a touchdown in the red zone to end the practice on a high note by making another leaping catch over a defender.

It's not hyperbole to say this was the best Lazard has looked as a Jet and it seems like the coaching staff is encouraged by what they saw.

    Second-Team Defensive Standouts

The first-team defense for New York is elite. Everyone knows that by now.

It was their reserves, though, that stood out the most in practice Wednesday.

To start, Leki Fotu, the former Arizona Cardinal defensive tackle made a couple of really nice plays in the run and even forced an incomplete pass on a bootleg in red zone. The Jets' interior of the defensive line will be perceived a lot differently if Fotu continues to play well.

    Then there's Qwan'tez Stiggers.

The fifth-round rookie out of the CFL excelled during OTAs and came away with the defensive play of the day to start training camp. Going against the third-team offense, Stiggers was in excellent position to pick off a pass and got the entire defense excited. He, along with Jarrick Bernard-Converse, looked really good as backups in the secondary on Wednesday.

All-in-all, the defense won the day for New York on Wednesday, and it was due in large part to the backups excelling when they needed to.

    Shaky Day From Aaron Rodgers

New York's starting quarterback started strong in the first few sessions of work today in team drills.

Rodgers' accuracy took a major dive once the starting offense moved into the red zone, though.

The quarterback threw behind Xavier Gipson on one pass and overthrew Garrett Wilson on another in what would have been a turnover on downs in a game setting. While he did find Lazard in the end zone to end practice, it wasn't the crisp kind of day we're used to seeing from the four-time NFL MVP.

As always, it's important to remember that this is only the first day, and Rodgers' accuracy will gradually improve once the reps increase.

    Injury Updates

While the Jets do have their offensive line healthy heading into camp, not all of them are participating in team drills right away.

Right tackle Morgan Moses and guard Alijah Vera-Tucker were out of team drills throughout the team portion of drills as part of their ramp-up period according to Saleh. They aren't necessarily hurt, but the Jets are being cautious with both players.

Tyron Smith looked healthy and ready to roll, but fans should expect he'll miss a few days of work as the Jets also manage his workload.

On another note, Breece Hall, as the Jets keep him fresh, was not a part of the majority of team drills but did bust off a big run on the first run play of 11-on-11 work.

Jets' forgotten draft pick 'gaining confidence' during position change
    Story by Ralph Ventre

It certainly wasn't a rookie season to remember for New York Jets' defensive back Jarrick Bernard-Converse.

The 2023 sixth-round draft pick never practiced during training camp and started the regular season on the Reserve/PUP list. After the Jets activated him late last October, Bernard-Converse made eight appearances almost exclusively in a special teams role. The versatile safety saw only four defensive snaps as a rookie.

Heading into Year 2, Bernard-Converse transitions from safety to cornerback, a position he manned during his collegiate career.

"It was good to learn him [last year]. We had him at safety initially. Moved him to the corner this offseason," said Jets' head coach Robert Saleh after the team's first training camp practice.

Bernard-Converse caught the attention of reporters in the session that was open to media. Going against wide receiver Irv Charles in 7-on-7 drills, the defensive back broke up a pass from quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

"He's a smart, young man, athletic, long," said Saleh. "He grinded back from his injury and you just see him slowly making progress and gaining confidence. Again, he's another guy that I'm excited to watch over the next month to see how he progresses."

The 24-year-old Bernard-Converse's versatility may be the reason why he sticks on the 53-man roster.

"He can play safety, he can play nickel, he can play outside," said general manager Joe Douglas after the Jets used the No. 204 overall selection on Bernard-Converse in April 2023.
