Connor Hughes @Connor_J_Hughes · Follow I had #Jets QB Aaron Rodgers 15 of 23 passing today with a TD and 2 INTs. One wasn’t his fault (Allen Lazard drop). Zack Rosenblatt @ZackBlatt Garrett Wilson with a well-thought answer about Malachi Corley’s progress. Said that when you play with Aaron Rodgers — and in the NFL in general — it takes a minute to figure out where to be and how to do certain things because of the complexities. Said he went through it as a rookie too in camp. But now he sees Corley learning and if they felt like they needed to hold his hand at the start of camp they don’t anymore. Wilson said he thinks Corley is going to have a big year and that the Jets are going to use him in unique ways. 12:47 PM · Aug 15, 2024
Harrison Glaser @NYJetsTFMedia Garrett Wilson with an amazing answer on altering his style to play with Aaron Rodgers: #Jets "I definitely had to change style wise, but I would say in a way that's more natural to the way I play. Reacting, believe what you see. Aaron can throw anything, he can throw it anywhere, so for me it feels like pure football. I feel like I'm a kid again. It's always been a thinking game when you play receiver, & there's these adjustments within plays, within routes, & based on the QB you can either do them or you can't, but with Aaron, everything, everything, you can do it. That's how football should be played. There's stuff we can do with Aaron that we couldn't do last year, or the year before." "Pure football" "With Aaron you can do everything"
Jets Training Camp Quick Hits: Garrett Wilson impressing; Tyler Conklin poised for big season The Jets had a joint practice with the Panthers on Thursday 8/15/2024, 1:10 PM Connor Hughes NFL Insider A few takeaways from the Jets' joint practice with the Panthers. Important to note that I watched the offense, not the defense... - This wasn’t the most crisp day for the Jets' offense. That’s usually the case for the visiting team in a joint practice. I had Aaron Rodgers 15 of 24 with two touchdowns and two interceptions. One of those interceptions wasn’t his fault. It when right off the hands of Allen Lazard. The other was Rodgers telegraphing one over the middle in the red zone to the linebacker. The first touchdown, like the first interception, deserves a bit of an asterisk. The Panthers were all over Rodgers for a would-be sack. The play wasn’t blown dead, so Rodgers threw one up and Garrett Wilson came down with it. The second touchdown was a short one to Wilson to cap a drive-the-field drill. - The offensive line received immense criticism for how it performed in joint practices with the Panthers last year. They were better on Thursday. The grouping of Tyron Smith, John Simpson, Joe Tippmann, Alijah Vera-Tucker, and Morgan Moses has the potential to be one of the better in the league. I had four sacks for the Panthers, but three of them came with Carter Warren in for Smith. Smith, Vera-Tucker and Moses were on a rep count on Thursday. That’s why they rotated in and out. Most impressive is the front’s run blocking. There are gaping holes for Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis to run through. There’s a lot of talk about Rodgers (for good reason). Don’t be surprised if this Jets team is led by its ground game. - That ground game, by the way, is far more than just Hall. Allen continues to impress and there’s a reason Davis saw first-team reps dating back to organized team activities. It will be interesting to see how Nathaniel Hackett rotates them. - Wilson continues to impress. Playing against Sauce Gardner daily is clearly having a positive impact. He toyed with Emmanuel Forbes in joint workouts with the Commanders and now it was the Panthers who struggled to contain him. I had Wilson with five catches and two touchdowns. He also drew an interference call in the Jets’ final two-minute drill to set up a touchdown (which he also caught). He’s such an elusive player. It seems like he and Rodgers are getting more on the same page, too. - I’ve written this before: Tyler Conklin is poised for a big season. He’s the player Rodgers targets whenever a play breaks down or he needs something quick. Conklin is a very reliable option over the middle and Rodgers likes exploiting that area of the field when defenses are keying in on Hall (off a play action) or Wilson (wherever he lines up). - The one defensive possession I saw came at the end of practice when both teams came together. Bryce Young took the Panthers down and scored on the Jets. The highlight was a long run from Mike Boone for a touchdown and a long completion to Jonathan Mingo for a first down (beat DJ Reed). Brian Costello of the New York Post watched the entirety of the defensive practice. He didn’t have rave reviews. There were quite a few flags thrown on the secondary for holding. Linebacker C.J. Mosley said he felt them come out sluggish and it took a bit for them to find themselves again.
