I love that Jets Talk has put these on YouTube. It really helps clarify matters in the debates over players. Brilliant of them to do so!
This last one is every snap of Izzy. I have no idea why it's showing the NFL message for this one, but not the others.
This defensive line is loaded. This team didn't draft a first round edge rusher in decades, then we get 2 in back to back years. It's really exciting. JJ was feasting yesterday and McDonald looked great as well. It boggles the mind that these guys are backups, these 2 will not be backups for long, that's for sure.
I think Zach is rounding out to be fine #2. That said, anyone else notice his game changes on 3rd down? Seems like that small amount of urgency and panic that screws up his mechanics, happens on 3rd down. Not a good thing for a winning QB. If I were scouting college QB's I'd base my evaluation performance on 3rd down. Like a baseball hitter with men on base. There's a difference.
for me...this was all bout how strong the DL is starting to look... JJ and Mac ... smh.... all the whingeing about Saleh year one starting to look like a buncha stoopit people on a public forum didnt know wtf they were talking about... our roster was shit.
Agree…our DL looks strong, and will drive that defense On Zach I agree…the stat line looked nice yesterday…what was it 14 of 20 for 123 and a TD? I’ll take it. There were plenty of dump offs and screens, but all in all he looked better. BUT… He did miss on third down a couple times and failed to sustain drives. And most of the throws were quick hitters probably due to the OL pressures and trying to get the ball out. Still, I think it was a positive step for him and if he can continue to build on it then hopefully he’ll be able to turn the page and keep it going. I’ve harped on his piss poor accuracy to no end, so when I see 70% I have to say OK that’s good…give him credit there There weren’t many Wow throws and nothing really downfield like that bomb against Cleveland, but this looked to be a controlled offense using the run to set up play action and plenty of screens…which by the way we have absolutely SUCKED on the screen passes for so long, on both offense and defense…so glad to see us play better there.
If I remember correctly, two of the drives that werent sustained were due to a penalty and a drop. Today we had enough LOS domination so that the short stuff worked. Once we get into the season it will be necessary to have some down the field completions to open up the short game.
I can't see it happening. Saleh wants 3 rotations of starting caliber edge rushers. Unless they have a 7th in their pocket.
I agree. And I also agree that if by trying to get "textbook" mechanics it screws up his ability to make off schedule plays, or worse, makes him continually second guess himself, then they should back off and settle for something in between. If I recall, in the beginning of Rodgers' career they tried to eliminate his free lancing too, although I could be wrong, and they eventually gave up trying because it hindered his ability to play with confidence. Again, maybe I'm misremembering this so if someone knows differently, let me know. As for Mahomes, I'm not sure if Reid tried to suppress his style of play really, other than having him sit and watch and learn for most of Year 1. Contrasted with Zach's situation, from what was reported the Jets (MLF) tried to completely shut down his free style in favor of "fixing" his mechanics and making him better suited to play in LaFleur's offense. In doing that they caused him to start thinking rather than just doing and that's when all the problems started. But I think now with Hackett, who has a reputation for adapting his scheme/system to the strengths of his QB, I think Zach is getting more relaxed and it's showing up in the games and practices I've seen. Getting back to the original point about the TD pass he threw where his feet were in the air and he was throwing across his body, I still think it's risky for him to be doing that. That said, maybe he's just more comfortable playing like that, and if Hackett is okay with it, who am I to argue?
Again, tempering my hype because it’s preseason but Tippman had a very very solid game. Dude was regularly winning one on one matchups and was clearing space in the open field. I have to assume that relegating him to at the very least the second unit has something to do with wanting an experienced center playing with Aaron Rodgers? I don’t know. I do remember reading that he didn’t play many shotgun snaps at Wisconsin so snap placement was an issue but there was nothing that alarming to me. It would be a bummer if he’s not starting at some point this season.
Yup, but on the TD pass his man was wide open. If tries to make throws with those mechanics into traffic, trouble will await.
Okay, here's what really bothered me about that throw. It wasn't simply the mechanics, it's why did he feel he had to rush to get the ball to the receiver? Why didn't he take the time to set himself and make the throw? Maybe he was just doing a little "razzle dazzle" because he figured he could get away with it there, but if he did it because he felt he had to get rid of the ball quickly, that's concerning.
My guess is they will see how the Oline is performing together at the bye and maybe insert him into the lineup if they think it's stable enough. Otherwise he'll probably have to wait until McG gets hurt and they have to bite the bullet.
That's the rub. I don't recall his mechanics causing him any accuracy issues at BYU or early in his rookie season, however.
