I know he made the pick at the end of the game, but I have found Jimmy 'Fartwind' Moreland to be expendable. I vote him off the island.
We had a couple of costly ones early, including tripping on CMG, our projected starter at C. Maybe Tipp can beat him out in the next month, who knows...
I was impressed by Izzy - it seems like the guy is making major progress on weekly basis after slow start to the camp. And looks like he can catch the ball too when given an opportunity. He is one of the youngest guys drafted and is making huge strides already. Perhaps you are right about Cook, I certainly feel a lot better about not signing him after yesterday.
A few weeks ago I would have said Tippman didn't stand a chance but now I'm thinking he will be starting sooner rather than later.
Not just you, me, and others, but Saleh too. He had Tipp on the 3d team behind Schweitzer who actually wasn't doing well in practice, then admitted he was surprised Tipp had a great game against Browns. Now I have to watch more closely, but looks like Tipp got reps and played well again, while CMG had a big aforementioned fuck up. It's definitely encouraging thus far. Hopefully Tipp will get some first team reps soon. He is already on the second now upgraded from 3d.
It was obvious to me the Jets were just a much better team than the rebuilding Panthers. This is really no dig on the Panthers. They were just in over their heads against the Jets. It was a good barometer for the Panthers to play against an assumed AFC powerhouse. They just found out they have a long ways to go. In every single phase and in ever single string the Jets were just better. Even with no real strategy going on their execution was much better than the Panthers. Even when it came down to a hat on a hat, the Jets were simply faster, stronger, and more athletic than the Panthers. What I think this confirms is that the Jets really do have a potential championship roster. I'm not making any predictions but I do think the Jets are one of the best teams in the AFC....
TWO things that I think should come out of this game: 1) Mekhi Becton should start getting 1st team reps. After his first play, I think Becton was very solid. 2) Joe Tippman deserves a promotion to at least the 2nd string. He was blowing players off the ball last night and he's been so since the HOF game. It will a true travesty if Tippman does not get a promotion...
Very good observations. There was a preseasn game against Saints at Metlife like 5-6 years ago. We still had Bowles. Maybe I am off with my memory and it was even longer than 5-6 years ago. Saints had Sean Payton and Drew Brees didn’t even play. But their 2nd and 3rd stringers gave Jets a huge beating. Yesterday game felt similar. Jets seconds and thirds dominated at all phases. Very encouraging.
For everyone talking about Wilson’s mechanics on that touchdown throw… I think you should take a look back at some film of his newest mentor. That was an Aaron Rodgers play action red zone throw if I’ve ever seen one.
I remember it well because of what you mentioned the Saints were kicking their butts early …. I believe it was around 2017 good memory.
The defense has the potential to be really exciting. In addition to the up and coming guys referenced, it is also stacked with veterans we haven’t even seen, and probably won’t see this preseason. Once Mosley, Lawson, the Williams brothers, DJ Reed, Al Woods, etc, also take the field…looking forward to seeing it all come together.
That’s something I really like about Saleh. He doesn’t care where someone was drafted, you need to work your way up the depth chart. Earn everything. Zach Wilson was the exception, being handed the job, and we saw how that worked out. That’s more on the FO tho, and a league wide approach to coddling QB confidence which I’ve never understood.
or he doesn’t think he did anything wrong because he mirrored on of the all time greats who happens to be his current mentor. I’m not saying that’s right or wrong, I’m saying I don’t think anyone on that staff cares too much if the end result is a TD.
Fair point, but I think the issue is that Zach needs to get his mechanics in order before he does much of the "razzle dazzle" which he did a lot of at BYU. I'm not saying it was an awful decision, but he's gotten in trouble doing that stuff when he didn't need to.
I both agree and disagree. I think the "razzle dazzle" is what makes it fun for Zach. As long as he's accurate, completing passes and is confident, the "razzle dazzle" doesn't bother me. Zach's accuracy didn't turn to crap until they started working with him to stop the "razzle dazzle" and focus on mechanics along with changing his mental approach to playing QB (philosophy). I think that messed with him. He had to think too much, which slowed down his reactions, got him confused and he lost some confidence, and then it messed up his accuracy, and he lost confidence. I think part of all that however was adjusting to the NFL, learning a very complex NFL offense, and having to change his philosophy of playing. He seems much more comfortable in Hackett's scheme than he did MLF's flavor of the WCO, and has seemingly made the change in his mental approach/philosophy of playing, so perhaps continuing to focus on mechanics won't throw a monkey wrench into his progress, and should only help. That said, if he can fix the mechanics and it not mess with his confidence and accuracy, fine, but if not, then I say to heck with mechanics. I'd rather have a confident, accurate Zach with imperfect mechanics, than a Zach with perfect mechanics, who has lost his love for the game or his confidence, or his accuracy gotten screwed up again. Mahomes doesn't have perfect mechanics, neither does Rodgers, and both are pretty darn good.
