Why did Chiefs go for a 4th and 25? They have all 3 time outs and they are down only 1. Why not punt the ball and rely on your defense?
Mahomes is the best QB in the league, but going for it on 4th and 25 down by 1 point with Stephen Hill and Chaz Schilens as your receivers when you have all three timeouts and the 2 minute warning is madness. Edit: Then again, with that run defense, maybe Reid had the right idea, Denzel Mims, Devin Smith, and all.
4th and 25? I don't trust God in that instance. Not like Lions were dominating on offense. To me this was a bad move which cost them the game. Not complaining. I am happy Lions won. But Reid outsmarted himself. Dumb move.
Same madness Dan C made going for it on 4th a few plays earlier. Lions get the ball back, they’re trying to run the clock out ie field position doesn’t matter. Loss of downs or punt is all the same @Brook!
Field position mattered in that situation because if the Chiefs run defense had held, it would have been the difference between getting the ball back with about a minute to play down 1 vs. down 4. Much easier to get into field goal range in a minute than get into the end zone. But yeah, if you think your run defense is going to crumble, then might as well go for it. Funny thing is Mahomes somehow managed to throw what should have been a first down ball if Skyy Moore weren't such a terrible receiver.
You’re talking about “enough time on the clock” and “field goal range” and @Brook! is asking why the Chiefs want the ball Im Mahomes’ hands…. I can’t…
Fucking brilliant. I love it. For those who don’t want to follow the link Kadarius Toney at -2.19 expected points added per target. Put another way: throw the ball at Kadarius Toney 3 times; the other team scores a touchdown
This is why EPA is a useless metric It only took Mahomes ONE pass to Kadarius Toney for the Lions to score a touchdown I’m dying.
Give it up or else I will come over and kick your ass. 4th and 25. Punt the ball since you have 3 timeouts and a 2 minute warning when you are down only 1 point.
You want to take the ball out of the MVPs hands. Me and a HOF coach disagree. We can agree to disagree and move on.
The smart play would have been run out of bounds at the 9 yard line. Lions can’t run the clock out. You get the ball back with 1:30. Lions may go for 2 to ice the game but I’ll take my 55% chances on them not scoring a touchdown getting the two. You now have the ball back either down 4 or 8 with 1:30 and no TOs
Belichick/Brady wouldn’t even have ever made that call. 4 and 25 in your own territory is a very bad decision no matter who it is. I would have went for the punt and a chance for a stop with 3 timeouts left
