This is what I said yesterday. Get to the BYE around .500 (even 2-4 wouldn't kill us IMO) and then we're ready to roll into the "easier" part of the schedule.
It feels like fate because UK football also has their BYE week that weekend too. Seems like this was just the weekend I'm supposed to get married.
Cynthia Frelund has us projected for 9.8 wins this season which is 5th best in the AFC (behind KC: 11.6, CIN: 11, BUF: 10.6, & BAL: 9.9).
With this schedule, I think getting to 10 wins would be good for us. That might even have us in contention for the division title. I could easily see 10-11 wins winning the East this year.
I'm not big into predicting W/L before the season. So much happens week to week that changes the predictability of each game. One thing caught my eye though. The Jets leave NY/NJ only one time between September 18 and November 11 (travel to Denver on 10/8). That's basically 2 months with one road trip. That's a pretty big advantage for a team. Also, having a mini-bye right before week 18 is an advantage.
we are gonna find out really F'ing quick if this defense is for real. I think it is fair to wonder if they are, they faced a lot of bad backup QBs last season. (skyler thompson 2x, siemian, brett rypien, brissett, etc) That wont be the case this year first 6 weeks Allen Prescott Mahomes Russ Wilson Jalen Hurts I sure hope that D is real
I agree. The first 6 weeks will be an excellent litmus test for not just the D but this team as a whole and will help us have the appropriate expectations going forward. If the Jets are in all of these games (aka don't get blown out and/or lose by 1 score) and manage to pull out 3+ wins, I think a division title and 11+ wins could be realistic.
That was last year. He had a bunch of rookie WRs with whom he was trying to build chemistry. He wasn't feeling rejuvenated, and he didn't have a great D. Hopefully, we'll see the Rodgers of his MVP season this season!
I agree. The Jets will learn a lot quickly with this early schedule. If they play well and win, it will build a lot of confidence. It should have them striving to play tough and hard to begin the season and set the tone for the rest of the year. Having the lighter schedule at the end, could give them the opportunity to rest some players and get some of the youngsters some experience before the playoffs. I think this may be an ideal schedule for them.
I don't see the Jets getting blown out this year. With last season's #2 D quite possibly being better, and with Rodgers, a potentially much better OL, and a better, deeper WR corps. We should be very competitive and in every game.
Trust me, my friend, I hope you're right. I would also even say that most likely you'll be right but the games aren't played on paper here in May.
