I was happy they too Tippman. Boards all over the internet wanted the Jets to JMS. Well, he is still available so teams had some doubts. Tippman is a big center, I just hope our tiny new QB can see.
IMO they passed on offense because all of the best OTs were already gone by pick #15. They didn't really need another WR or TE. IMO one does not take a slot WR in the 1st round, no matter how good he is. One can generally find very good slot WRs in the 3rd and 4th round. The Jets have Wilson, Lazzard, Davis, Hardman and Mims. IMO that's a very good WR corps. Hardman signed with them because the Jets promised to expand his route tree and give him more opportunities than KC did. IMO KC underutilized and misused Hardman. Then the Jets have Uzomah, Conklin and Ruckert at TE, and Bryce Hall, Carter and Bam Knight at RB. Rodgers is going to have a hard time keeping everyone happy as it is. Where were they going to work in Jaxon Smith-Njigba or any other WR or Kincaid? Saleh said that with Rodgers they expect the Jets to have the lead a lot more often in the 4th Qtr., should have more opportunities to rush the passer, and wanted to add more speed to their pass rush. Both Saleh and JD believe the game is still won in the trenches, so imo it makes sense that they took a DL there rather than an offensive playmaker. They got their C tonight. I'm just surprised that it was Tippman and not John Michael Schmitz. They had talked to Schmitz 4-5 times and seemed to really like him, but I guess that was smoke to disguise that they liked Tippman. I just hope that his height (6'6") doesn't cause problems for Rodgers. It'll be interesting to see what they do in the 4th and 5th rounds. I think they may grab a S and a LB or RB.
I disagree. The Jets needed a quality C to solidify the center of the OL. McGovern had one of his best seasons in 2022 and still gave up something like 5 sacks and a bunch of pressures. The two FA Cs the Jets signed are not starting caliber. If Becton and Brown can stay healthy, we should be fine at OT. Of course, that's a big IF. Hopefully, Mitchell is healthy and can build on how he played last year and can be solid depth. Even Ogbuehi played pretty well last year as a starter at RT. So, if they can stay healthy, OT should be OK. That said I was upset that all the top OTs were gone before the #15 pick, but that's the way things fall in the draft sometimes (especially for the Jets). It takes luck as well as skill in the draft. Things fell great for the Jets last year. This year, not so much.
Would've traded down a bit last night and taken Harrison to ensure depth at OT and increase our draft capital for tonight and possibly next year.
You gotta love Bellichick. He must go to bed each night thinking of ways he can f*&k over the Jets. He had to know the Steelers were going to take the OT as a condition of the deal.
FWIW since there were no trades from pick 15 to 23, I think it's fair to guess that there just wasn't any market for teams looking to trade up
Oh and Elijah Moore wasn't a bust for the Jets who we used a 34 on right? How quickly we forget. Or how about the year before when he drafted Becton with the 1st and Mims with the 2nd also huge disapointments, so right now hes batting .333 with this year up in air, like I said you can flip a coin and do better
Can we start talking about Day 3 yet? Dewayne McBride RB - very good in a zone system Brandon Joseph S - Ballhawk Andrew Voorhees OG A USC OG who can spend the year on IR
Roschon Johnson pls. Without Ty Johnson we are going to need a banger for the winter games. I could go for Antonio Johnson as well Time for some Johnsons.
