Had no other choice than give him the blank check. Probably killed Hal that they had to get to 360 b/c SF was already there. Aaron Judge flew into San Diego at the last minute to decide among three teams: the New York Yankees, the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres. The Yankees bumped their offer to nine years and $360 million, and in the end, Judge decided he wanted to remain a Yankee.— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) December 7, 2022 What a bet by Judge man. Only other player I can think of betting on himself and being rewarded in a huge way (which still falls drastically short) was Flacco and that Super Bowl run he had with the Ravens. 130 million dollar poker win. Nicely done.
The back end of this deal is going to be ugly. Judge is 30 with a history of injuries. But if the Yankees can get #28 (and hopefully more) then it will be worth it.
Sources: Last night that Yankees were at 8/$320MM for Judge. They believed SDP was at $400 and Giants would get there. Hal got on phone w/Judge, asked him if he wanted to be a Yankee. Judge said yes but need 9th year.Hal/Judge closed deal.— Andy Martino (@martinonyc) December 7, 2022
Me likey. Still need to balance the order out and probably make a few trades to get some guys out and bring some new faces into the order... But their starting pitching is legit. Hopefully Boone let's them go further than 5 innings
The Rodon signing is huge. Yankees have a legit starting rotation for the first time in a while. Still lots of rumors that Cashman is working on some mammoth deal. I wonder if he's trying to bring in Ohtani from the Angels. Who knows? Lots of excitement in Yankee Land. Hope they re-sign Benintendi.
I've seen those stories too. Why would would they trade for Tatis when they have two stud shortstops in Volpe and Peraza that will likely join the club next season. Stay tuned. Something big brewing...
Right-hander Frankie Montas, the biggest acquisition for the New York Yankees at the trade deadline last year who was expected to be a big part of their rotation this year, will undergo shoulder surgery on Tuesday that could cause him to miss the season, manager Aaron Boone said.— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) February 15, 2023
They did add Carlos Rodon and even with Montas sidelined they have a very good rotation as well as the best power hitter in baseball.
They have two guaranteed outs in their lineup with Hicks in left and Donaldson at third. Cashman's ego prevents him from ever admitting a mistake, which means they will play no matter what.
Carlos Rodon has a mild forearm strain, no throw for 7-10 days, per Cashman. Will start season late.— Greg Joyce (@GJoyce9) March 9, 2023
