I am happy to see such optimism among younger posters ..truthfully But when you have been stood up at the Alter for more than 5 decades , and then no playoffs for 11 years , seen the poor management , the pedestrian coaching I am just numb numb numb
I just glanced at who it was, mainejet was an idiot when he posted here and I'm sure he's still an idiot, and a racist too. Just a couple of the reasons he got the ban hammer here
I vote Jets to win. Good football opponent to get the season started. Get our D and O some work to start jelling. It will be a spectacular tailgate! GO JETS!!!
You left out 2021 week 1...Ravens loss to Raiders 33-27. The Ravens week 1 losing streak hits 2 in 2022.
I’ve watched this team for 12 years and I’m already numb. Until this team shows us otherwise, they don’t deserve our support.
Uhuh My eyes will be on the Raiders and Eagles to provide some playoff possibilities The LA Rams are the Champs because they constructed a great Team , have a creative HC and added a Vet >>M Stafford To JDs credit , he has recruited.some good free agents had a talented draft but may not have the right HC or QB in place yet and ...we will see what unfolds this season...oh well
Still watch every game and root for them. I’ll always be a Jets fan. My emotional investment in this team has been decreasing for years. If they ever start winning again it’ll go back up.
I'm not optimistic at all, but I do think this game is going to be closer than most think. Could see a 3-7 point game all the way with a chance for us to win at the end. I'm expecting the defense to be much better than that shit we saw last year. I don't think the Ravens are all that good outside the #s, their only real threat is Bateman who is very good at beating man coverage off the LOS and obviously Andrews over the middle. They have absolutely no deep presence whatsoever since they traded Hollywood Brown. Duvernay is that guy and he's nothing more than a kickoff/punt return specialist, albeit a good one. Whitehead it going to be a huge factor for us on D IMO. Loved watching him in Tampa blowing up running QBs so containing Lamar is going to be huge in this game. The DL needs to be disciplined and not rush up field to open up insane holes for Lamar to gash us. I also don't know who the hell the Ravens are going to use as their RB. J.K Dobbins coming off a gnarly injury last year and hasn't played in a year, Gus Edwards is on the PUP. If Mike Davis runs all over us I am going to lose my mind. Game is going to be very close, just no boneheaded plays from Flacco and maybe we sneak one out.
I could see your prediction being correct for sure. I worry about Andrews though and I’m not sure who would cover him. If Ulbrich runs that same stupid defense with the safeties back 25 yards, Andrews will feast with 10-15 yard catches but you are right about the Ravens lack of outside threats
SPOT ON!! There is actually zero reason to have the safeties that far off the ball in this game. I would test Sauce all day vs Bateman and let's see what the rookie can do. I think Bateman is good and will possibly become very good, but it isn't like he is Stefon Diggs or Justin Jefferson good yet. Flood the middle to neutralize Andrews and play discipline up front and control your lanes. If Duvernay beats me, so be it.
They won 4 games last year. We have a lot of young players who haven't proven themselves at the NFL level yet. We still don't know if Wilson will be a franchise QB. On paper they have improved but can they do it on the field. My guess is 7-8 wins tops this season. The rebuild is definitely not over but they should (hopefully) be headed in the right direction.
I think this game will show what we are. This game is all about our Defense and O-line. We are going to try to run the ball down the throat of the Ravens. Our defense needs to contain Lamar and Whitehead needs to have a big game. If we get down early and have to throw the ball against probably the best secondary in the NFL we are in trouble. I do think the Ravens are overrated and the Jets will keep it close.
Jets X factor makes a really good point, in a recent article, where they state the talent level between the jets and Ravens is pretty equal but the Ravens have a big advantage in what they call "stability and awareness." The Ravens are a veteran team that has played in the same systems for quite awhile. While the Jets are one of the youngest teams, with 12 to 13 new starters, entering year 2 of a rebuild where year one was mostly wiped out by injuries. The Ravens can start this year going full speed where I think we will still be learning our way. It is going to take the Jets time to learn to play well together and to learn the systems. I would be very happy to see the Jets play competitive football. I am not concerned about wins just developing young players and being able to hold their own and play competitively. Do we have a chance of beating the Ravens? Yes, but a whole lot has to go right. I am more interested in seeing us to stay healthy and see where we are at the end of the year as a football team than where we are week one.
Yes, I agree in the long term but it would be nice to see competitive football week 1. Shoot the Jags beat the Colts week 1 a couple of years ago and then did not win another game. I do not want to see that happen. The Ravens do not have any RB's and suspect O-line that means Lamar is their only running threat and their receivers are not scaring anyone, especially with a vet like Reed and a TOP 4 pick in Sauce. I think this match-up sets up nicely for us if the defense has improved at all. The ravens D-line is average and we should be able to run the rock. The experience is the equalizer and we do lack that.
I agree on the Raven WRs. Can our defense stop the run and contain big plays in the run game? Dobbins might play week one and I read that the Ravens run defense has been very good. I would not be surprised by any result but I do think a lot has to go right for us. It starts with stopping their run game and containing Lamaar forcing him to pass from the pocket. On offense I hope to see MLF successfully use misdirection with the Jet sweep to keep the Ravens DL off balance along with creating a lot of easy quick passes for Flaaco to open things up for our running game and down the field. Mainly I hope to see us get off to a good start and not get behind big early. We played so much better last year when we got off to a good start. Success allows young players to relax and not press as much. It would be great to see a defensive stop on the 1st drive as well as a score on our 1st possession. That would be a huge reversal from last year. Nothing would be more demoralizing than to see us get down big early. Anything but that works for me.
