It was the order to have them play in 5 minutes that was the problem. This plus what's been happening with Tua shows that even now, the NFL does not care about the players. And it's not like there's some fair solution that lets you play the Super Bowl on time. If you play it on time, you either have to unfairly punish the Bills or Chiefs, or you have to take away a postseason bye week, which would be extra ironic because the whole point is to give the players rest. Also in the long run, I think the NFL will have to make rule changes. You don't have to make it into rugby, but you have to put restrictions on hits vs. tackles, and you have to do something about linemen getting into three point stances and colliding heads. And if that makes scoring too high, let corners get more physical with receivers. In the end, something will have to be done if we want football to stay as the most popular sport.
This is what i have been saying as well. Even if they played it tomorrow or Thursday, pushed week 18 to Monday, and then playoffs normally scheduled. That’s 3 games in 10 days for the Bills or Bengals. That’s season suicide
The only logical change is to get rid of helmets and shoulder pads. That complete fixes all of the things you’re alluded to as an issue. I agree, that was dumb that the NFL didn’t cancel it right away.
I'd prefer not to do that. First of all, it increases the risk of skull fractures. And second, at that point, it wouldn't be football. We need reform but it still has to be football. Also the other thing is no more letting players on the field who are concussed. The concussion protocol is supposed to accomplish that, but it isn't doing its job nearly well enough.
The problem is the dynamics of all this. You could play the Bengals-Bills game this Sunday or Monday too, and then push back their games to the following week and then cancel the bye week between the Super Bowl but a lot of this stuff is difficult to move. A lot of these playoff games and dates are set in stone, networks, people, etc plan stuff around it all. They could also do some quirky stuff and give the Chiefs and Bills a bye week, add a #8 seed to the AFC. In that situation the Chiefs and Bills would be made happy and the Bengals would lose a little but the Bengals likely weren't getting a bye anyway.
Yeah imagine. I doubt the NFL even thinks of that option though. If they void the game and base it on win % then the Chiefs move to the 1 seed after a win next week. There is no way the Bills would be ok with that, I just can't see them agreeing to that either. Someone should suggest adding a #8 seed and giving Bills-Chiefs a bye and giving a cake first round game to the Bengals.
Just FYI I googled the occurrence of commodia cortis in young athletes and the odds of it occurring across all sports is something like 1-50K or even higher. This is a very rare event what happened to this poor kid So you take up football and then luckily Pro Football you are basically playing with the odds on your side for this particular medical event happening to your heart One Dr I saw on news was saying they could try to regulate hits against the left side of your chest ...but thats actually unfeasible probably OTOH head injuries and other injuries need better rules and equipment imo
Or they could give them all bye weeks. It’d be unfair to the other teams in the conference and the NFL would never do it because they’d lose games. What’s the best case scenario? I think the Chiefs win, Bills lose, Bengals lose. The only thing that creates is a chance for the Ravens to win the division if I’m looking at it correctly.
There are no good options at this point so I say declare the game Tie and move on. And this is most likely what NFL will do. Not saying this is fair or anything but this solves the problem for around 28-29 teams out of 32.
The chiefs will inexplicably lose sunday. (even if the stripes have to help with the matter). The bills and bengals will win. Then the league doesnt have to make that game up as Buffalo will have the no.1 seed, the Bengals the division, the networks keep their schedule, and everyone will be happy. --- edit- Chiefs game is on Saturday, even better. The league throws that game ahead of the sunday schedule for Buffalo & Cincy to get the results they want
Bengals would need to lose also otherwise they can claim they would have the 2nd seed had they beat the Bills. This win plus a win over the Bills would have given them the same record as KC and they beat KC head to head
yeah but theres not much difference between the 2 and 3 seed. Regardless I say keep an eye on that Chiefs-Raiders game saturday. I am betting hard on the Raiders myself
