If he did that, he’d definitely get fired.

I don't think we've got a lot of cap space left. My understanding is that we need about $20 million for our draft picks this year (picks 4 and 10 alone are $11 million). https://overthecap.com/calculator/new-york-jets/ and https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-jets/cap/, both show us with about $29 million in cap space, so $9 million more than we need to sign draft picks, but the sites do not include Laken Tomlinson ($13m/year), Tyler Conklin ($7m/year), DJ Reed ($11m/year), or Joe Flacco ($3.5m/2022). I expect that those contracts (except Flacco's 1 year deal) will likely be back loaded for cap purposes, reducing their cap hits by approximately 1/2 to 2/3rds for 2022 (low 2022 base salary plus most 2022 comp paid in signing bonuses, so their comp for 2022 can be spread over next 2 or 3 years for purposes of the salary cap). I also expect that the Jets will likely cut Ryan Griffin ($3 million in cap savings) and, after the draft, likely Greg Van Roten ($3.5 million in cap savings). They might also cut Rankings for a $5.5 million cap savings, depending on how the draft shakes out. I also think the Jets want someone to sign Mike White and give the Jets a 5th round pick for him (they used an original round tender, rather than a 2nd round tender and the 2nd round tender would not have been much higher) and that would free up another $2.5 million in cap space. They could also renegotiate Mosley, Lawson, Corey Davis and/or Franklin-Myers contracts for additional cap space (convert most 2022 comp into 2022 signing bonus so that it gets spread over remainder of renegotiated contract), but I assume the player would want another year guaranteed on them in exchange for renegotiating their deals, so JD might be reluctant to do so.

I expect that Day 2 and 3 picks will include at least 3 offensive lineman that they hope would be able replace Fant, Feeney & McGovern in 2023, when their contracts expire. They have 5 picks in the 4th and 5th rounds and I expect JD to trade back a couple of times and perhaps pick up another 6th round pick.

Yeah he legit was hurt since he was drafted. Then suddenly he had a BIG 2nd half of the 2021 season. Don’t think he fits here though.

The DeAndre Hopkins contract is made to look like $27 million on paper but it’s not, it’s really a little over $18 million per year. They did it to make him happy for publicity, but it’s not actually that type of contract. I made a whole video about for the Salary Cap series I do on my YouTube channel. The highest paid WR was Julio Jones at $22 million, and even that one was a little weird. The largest true, straight up contract for a WR prior to Adams was a tie between Amari Cooper, Mike Williams, and Keenan Allen at $20 million per year each.

To me, this was bad business by the Raiders, especially considering the picks they also gave up.

If the Jets don't trade for Danielle Hunter today I'll not be too pleased. He's a 2 time pro bowler with elite skill set and can probably be had for a second round pick. The Vikings need to trade him and we are the best suitors by far. Yes I know he has injury riddled past the last 2 years but he is dominant when on the field. I believe he was the fastest to 50 sacks and he's still young. It has to be before 3pm today or he gets his bonus and stays, please JD make this team better. Him and Lawson would be perfect, KT isn't falling to 4.

You're gonna be pissed at them not going for an injury-riddled player who can be dominant when on the field, WHEN being the most important word.

Taking into account they have announced that they are looking at more durable players this time around, he has played 7 games in 2 years.

Big contract and a draft pick = a hard pass for me tbh.

Contract actually isn't that bad, take a hit this year and cheap next year. My thoughts are that there is no guarantee we get an edge in the draft. Or if we do it will be a situation where we HAVE to take one early leaving out the possibility of taking BPA. Yes he has been injured and everyone here is terrified of injuries because we have been snake bitten but he is healthy now and would immediately make our pass rush 1000 times better without hoping we get an edge in the draft and again hoping they produce at the next level.

Keep an eye on Danielle Hunter today. The Vikings are trying to trade him before his roster bonus is due tomorrow, so if he’s getting moved, today is the day. The Jets have shown they don’t want to go into this draft with an obvious weakness, so they may want to add another pass rusher prior to the draft.

Been echoing this for days. Would be a HUGE addition to our defensive arsenal.

I brought him up in one of my off-season mocks a couple of months back, it just depended on if Minnesota wanted to keep him or not.

I think he would be a really good fit for the team, I’m hopeful he can be had for a later pick.

IMO Hunter is an injury risk and probably not the answer for us.

I know every situation isn't the same, but I don't know if I want to load up on injury prone starters at pass rusher. We tend to lose our non-injury-prone players on a regular basis already.

A nice chunk of cap space (approx. $10-$11 million) can be gained by cutting Rankins, GVR and Griffin. For some reason, OTC won't open for me. Does one have to have a paid subscription now to see team data?
