It’s just short for 1st string vs 2nd string. In draft circles it comes from grades. Top graded LB=LB1 and so forth
It's a depth chart term. Every team ranks each position accordingly. If you're talking about terms like "true WR1", then it's a comparative term. For example, Randy Moss = "true WR 1". Same for Jerry Rice, Don Maynard, etc. Guys that teams have to gameplan for. Every team looks for THAT guy, but they're almost as rare as an elite edge rusher, or top tier QB.
This one sucks. We have a glaring hole on at DT right now unless we're planning on Marshall (unlikely) or Shepard (even more unlikely) stepping in.
JFM is going to get kicked back into the DT spot since Lawson is coming back and the Jets will presumably draft an edge early.
I’d get behind this for sure. Williams is arguably the best free agent available. We need either a linebacker or safety badly.
Heard this live just a few minutes ago during his YT Live. Hughes claimed he’s hearing Williams’ market could get up to the 18-20M APY range at which point he thinks JD would back out. Will be interesting to see if JD’s philosophy changes for someone as impactful as Williams could be in this D. We shall see soon enough. He also said he would be shocked if the Jets come out of FA without signing another CB or S.
18-20??? Damn man idk he’s really good and only 26 I think but that’s a good chunk of change. If it’s 15 or so I would be all over it
That’s just what Hughes has been hearing, so take it with a grain of salt. Could be Williams’ agent blowing smoke to try to raise his market, hopefully it’s much closer to the 14-16M range.
He's a more effective pass rusher from the interior if I remember some stats correctly; don't have exact numbers though. Like you said, too quick for guards and has enough power to fight through them.
I'd be shocked if JD pays Marcus Williams $18m/yr. No way he's worth that much. I'd rather they draft Kyle Hamilton than pay Marcus Williams $18m/yr.
