The only solace is its top 12 protected, which this team will likely play into. And Beau is no big loss. But Raty should have been trade bait for a winger, and a salary dump.

Lou damn well better have had his extension already agreed to.

Horvat and Lamoriello have both said that there have been no discussions yet about a contract extension. Watch Lamoriello screw that up too. What a joke.

This move would have made sense a few years ago when Trotz had us in the ECF in back-to-back years. We could have used Bo's offense for sure. Now we really need to rebuild. I will say Horvat is only 27 and a good player who can score. Lou better get him to sign an extension otherwise this is a complete disaster of a deal.

He gave up the next big NHL star in Raty to save his job.

This guy is a disaster as a GM, Ledecky needs to fire him ASAP and get a younger GM that’s not stuck with philosophy’s of 1880 hockey.

There will be no extension, Horvat will leave and Islanders are going to watch Raty and Hirvat end up playing together and putting up monster points for other teams.

    Mike Milbury all over again!

Isles should look at Carolina Hurricanes Assistant GM Eric Tulsky as an example for their next GM. Carolina has a good team primarily built thru the draft. They really need to move on from Lou at this point.

Milbury drafted a second dynasty and traded them all away. Lou could never be so bad as to compare to that asshole.

Milbury didn't have the financial support that Lou has, Milbury had to get rid of the players and get something in return.

Lou is simply done at this point, he got hosed by the Canucks, a number one prospect that will be putting up big numbers in Vancouver for a 27 year old that will walk away.

These type of moves are last gasp transactions before the head is chopped off.

Seeing alot of criticism of the deal but that’s what he was going to get regardless who signed him. I think it’s a good deal. And if we can fix our defense he only needs to be a 70-75 point player to be worth that amount on the Isles.

I’m surprised they got it done, but I’m glad they did. I do agree with Lou these deals are too long. Only players that are getting that money are untouchable big time scorers that will stay with team their entire career.

back end of deal paying a 35 year old that type of money for reduced points is going to handicap them in the long run.

This is also Lou’s fault for resigning Bailey, Parise, and other veterans thinking he could make a run with older players.

In todays NHL, if roster is not making a push then you have to clean house and bring up young players and let them develop.

It’s what the Islanders should have done.

Lou’s ability to get rid of the Bailey contract is going to have a huge impact on next season. I’m not sure how he does it, though, in a trade at this point. Maybe if a contender wants Parise, who would have value for a contender this year because of his salary, it could get done.

There wasn't any option other than to do this deal once the trade was made, but that doesn't change the fundamental fact that Lamoriello has done a poor job of managing this team for years.

Another win last night. 4 wins in a row. Isles are one point back of the Caps who are the first WC. Caps do have a game in hand. Isles are tied with the Pens in points for the 2nd WC, but the Pens have 4 games in hand. Catching the Caps is more realistic. Never thought I would say this, but the playoffs are a possibility.

The two upcoming games against the Pens are key. We will have to win them both to offset the games in hand.

They not only have to win them, but they have to do it in regulation. Here is an FYI.

This might have been Sorokin's worst game of the season.
