Panthers hold on and win the Cup. McDavid wins the Conn Smythe, much to the displeasure of the fans. A little odd, given he went scoreless in the two most important games of the playoffs (the last two). Barkov the first Finn to captain a Stanley Cup winner. Former Islander Kyle Okposo gets the Cup after 1051 regular season games.

Katie Ledecky won her sixth Olympic gold medal today. It's too bad that she hasn't been able to convince her Uncle Jon that doing everything you can to win is a good thing. Sigh.

Season right around the corner and now this. I hope this doesn't become an issue this year. https://nypost.com/2024/09/16/sport...y-reveals-islanders-ilya-sorokin-had-surgery/
Meh. Of course this is potentially disastrous, but I expect absolutely nothing good from this team until the idiot in charge is gone.
Sadly, you are probably correct. As a matter of fact, I know you are. I wish he would retire already. He is in his early 80's and is a multi-millionaire. No reason to keep working.
Just quoting my post from last July as we see that Engvall has been put on waivers. It was so fucking obvious even to me that signing him to that contract was idiotic, yet the "professional" GM couldn't see it. Oh, and Mayfield was out half the year with an injury after scoring 0 goals with a +/- of -7, so that was also a great decision.
I know Sorokin has been skating, but he didn't play in any of the preseason games. I don't even think he took shots in practice as he recovers from the off-season surgery he had. Wonder when he will be ready to join the Isles and start playing games. Varlamov is a good goalie and will be the starter until Sorokin returns. If this team has any shot of competing this year, they will need Sorokin for the long-term. Varlamov is 36. I don't think the Isles want him carrying too heavy of a workload.
Game day today vs Utah. I will be watching the Yankees as playoff baseball takes priority over regular season hockey. Let's Go Islanders and Yankees.
I’m sure the Isles are just looking to imitate the Mets route to success by starting the season incompetently.
